For some players, yes. For others, no. It depends on the Game Level, Character Level and Game Difficulty.
It's an equation that doesn't lend itself to simplification to "So before u could only see the better ships on harder modes of play?"
It really depended on how well you play the game.
This is only about the starport, not the fighting ships. I don't want to adjust that, it is how Basic stays basic.

@cory - I usually shop and look for ships on planets with high Economy to be able to find interesting and rare ships (and also the new ones). Yesterday I made a mistake and tried to find new ships on planet with very low Economy.
I bought Omega Cruiser for $0.8M and because it usually costs around $1.9M on my "usual" planet, I am asking myself: Was it incredible luck or is it something done in the last update?

Now the search continues. I had to play a few turns when I downloaded the upgrade.  I'm "assuming" that different ships may be available at different times at the same Star Dock? I petty much went to very Star Ports I could under the Devaltos, Rycher, Cadar and Independents. But I also recall posts warning the Elite ships are a rare find. Great job as usual guys!!!!!  |

You should find all the ships in the Syndicate ports you have mentioned. Look more into high Economy planets, located in the lower right corner mostly. But you are right, different ships are available at different times. Rare ships will still be rare. Also some events make availability of ships very different. Once I came across a star port where more than 100 ships were available. Shopping spree!

Once I came across a star port where more than 100 ships were available. Shopping spree! The largest haul I ever came across was 30+ ships! Which Star Port could hold more than a 100 ships?! Pics, or it didn't happen! ;D |

blackgauntlet - couldn't find 200 ships, but here's 98 for sale at Syndicate Capital. I have seen over 200 for sale before though.

You luck bastards... but probably, it's because the rumors that happen in my games are always hitting those with really lousy Star Ports in the 1st place.
