Here is our status -- throughout January we've been working hard on this. We are now 81% done with the update and the required testing. We were hoping to wrap it up in January but the mobile launch for STF closed in and bumped the final work back into February. That said, I am devoting hours to the story update every week and it will be done soon. It's going to be big and makes Episode 4 the largest Episode in the game by far.

Cool!  Been waiting patiently for this.  Hands down the best RPG story line I have ever played through.  In fact this is the only RPG where I didn't stop carring about the story line very quickly.  Looking forward to it.

Does the Western world (west of Oskahold) open up in Ep4? Or is that being reserved for the Legends of Steel?

It is on the map for world completeness but was never planned to be open in Heroes of Steel. In time, we may be able to re-open Red Hill and Oskahold, but it isn't on the hot list atm.

I'm caught up and done everything I think I can do. Ready for the next chapter.

I just want to say, it's been a great ride. How you've done the story is, to me, as important as the story itself. I think you've got the formula for story telling correct.


The little bite sized nougets of story telling is excellent. I've often avoided games tagged "story rich" on steam because it frequently means reading pages of information at a time. I like reading stories but a game needs to be a game first and foremost... And that's what you've done.

The lore is rich and the story deep but you've done it without inundating us with lots of text at once.

HoS is a great example that other developers should look at, at how to tell a story.


One question about Red Hill, does it matter if you selected the general to be Baron or not? Does the story change much... Or is it mainly how the Reeve at Riverdale perceives you? Different lines of dialogue?

Hi. I know this post was many months ago , but i recently only played this game, and it's amazing.
However i've reached the last town Fierhold, but unable to proceed to the Glacier. A message pop up informing me that the glacier is only available in the next story update.

I just want to check if the whole update (for episode 4) is complete or if I'm on an old update version?
I'm on v4.5.23 on MacBook. Bought the game from Steam.

PS : Fabulous game. So engrossed catching up with the story. Engaging fights.

@happygamergal yes, .23 is the final update atm. The very next update will be v5.0.1. We've been posting a running countdown of the task list for this final update running on our discord (https://discord.gg/tresebrothers) and its currently ticked down to 8 more items to go. We are very close after months of hard work to bring all the story threads and conditions together and to create an epic series of final dungeons. We've also gone the extra mile to make the end dungeon replayable on repeat as long as you want to grind it out for more loot and levels!
