This has happened to me a couple of times now on different difficulties. The latest was when I doubletapped a planet to travel there, my slow phone didn't seem to register it so I did it again. Ship began to travel but map background dimmed & when I reached my destination I couldn't interact with anything - back button wouldn't quit me either. Had to Home and ATK. Restart was fine.

What options do you have turned on?
The HTC Hero is near the bottom of the supported devices list.

I haven't been running fullscreen, which I suspect is the problem; ship tracking during movement stopped working about the time I turned it off. Everything I can turn off, I have. I can't live without the map background though.

unfortunately, ST is a low permission, non-background, non-GPU application. even in foreground mode at fullscreen it cannot monopolize the CPU device.
The vast majority of Android slow downs are caused by CPU consumption by another thread or kernel mode process like the radio, the e-mail, the market, etc.
Therefore during periods of high simulation, graphical rendering and other CPU tasks any device (based on CPU cycles to screen size, roughly) could potentially suffer CPU starvation and dropped frame rates.
This is normal and something that I tune the game to avoid based on my calculations. I am constantly working to improve that but of course it is very complex when supporting 800+ devices.

Happens to me fairly consistently on my Droid X.
Fix: I found that hitting the hardware "Search" button (on my phone, the magnifying glass on the far right) cleared the issue, however it would usually pop up again later on.

Had it happen to me once today. Had to force close ST.
Default options other than game toast durations all ticked long delay and all music turned off, on htc desire.
The only thing I can say is that I didnt click fully on the location, like slightly to the left of it if you get my drift. Have tried to replicate this to no avail.

Possible recent cause (post 2/14) is this release and a set of changes proceeding it.
v4.3.5 - 2/20/2012 - Improved Memory Manager Performance
The Memory Manager may be performing better under testing but causing some issues on your devices.
Tonight I am going to roll it back and release an update. I would really appreciate your feedback on any improvement to the situation following that update.
Thanks!
