Not that he'd be a great ally, but has anyone tried it? Does he come with you to the NBZ?

I doubt you would have enough time to build up the required XP to make him an ally.

I have done it. Actually, you can get two troggers in the Made Not Born introduction. I once successfully turned both of them into allies, just to prove to myself I could.
The trick is to rest up completely just before taking one of the missions where you get a trogger henchman. Do the mission, then do other jobs until you can turn him into a permanent Runner, popping stims as needed. Then you can sleep and let him go away. Rehire him once you get into the NBZ, and raise his XP until you can make him an Ally.
