This game used to be my crack. All I wanted after unlocking most everything else was the Dark Century challenge. I want the Tempis Fugit. I get to year 157.1 after 7 hours, move one square to turn it in, then suddenly aliens. And my suddenly superior ship is no match against the 50 engine faggotry. I quit, f%#k this game now.

Yes. And no, I have not. I will play again, I know this. This game is my addiction, I just can't quit it.

I had a Fast/Quick Dagger class with a 32 engine score and sails out the ass with a Sail Probe and Cargo/Crew upgrade instead of the pod. Honestly I was a runner in the truest sense, though the ship was beastly at mid range if I had to fight. I ran from most everything though, I am loathe to get into any sort of combat if I can help it. Especially since I exclusively play Explorer. It was just... Frustrating. I kept saying to myself something like this was going to happen when I finally got to it. Didn't make me feel any better.

Also Shuttle wouldn't have helped, they didn't vent the hull. They boarded and stabbed/fragged me to death. Damn dirty xeno's...

Sure it would have. Just ram and ram until your ship bounces out to Long or your shuttle triggers. but that's just me, some people say I play funny

You can ram past vessels? I was unaware of this. But also, that ship was my baby, I loved it. Ramming it into the side of some alien bastards hull just didn't seem right. Though I did have the shield generator upgrade.... Food for thought Corey, food for thought. The Orichalcum will live on.

I don't see anything to think about just yet, but I will keep listening to the forum of course.
If you weren't using the SG with Ram to evade close range combat (esp. as your professed a desire to escape to medium/long) I'm confused.
It sounds like you could have won, depending on what type of Alien you were up against.

I think it was a type one. I prefer boarding combat, I had a 15 warrior with the Leviathan System. But I could not hurt their captain no matter what I did. When I tried to flee, they closed within two turns and I couldn't make any ground. I'll be honest, I'm terrified at combat in this game, which is why I avoid it like the plague. Mostly I board and hope for the best. But 88 crew vs. 500 is never going to be pretty. I did manage to get their hull down to almost nothing, but then my guns simply wouldn't hit anything.
And I meant food for thought for me, not you my good sir.

The Aliens all have different names and types. It sounds like you faced ones without a Captain -- very difficult to defeat. Ram is a critically useful weapon when the Enemy's hull is weakened badly. If you are successful you will do damage and gain range, which allows for more guns. Combat in this game is not very scary, it is actually very, very predictable one you get to know the rules. I admit that this does not mean it is easy to win. It is very, very predictable when you are going to loose on Impossible. Surrender is a critical strategy in ST RPG. Remember Han Solo? Sometimes he let the bad guys search his ship

I surrender when I can, as long as it isn't the faction I'm ranked as a terrorist with or Aliens. You cant surrender to aliens. The alien wishes to destroy all life. Surrender is not an option that leaves you alive.

But surrendering to aliens is not something that you can do right? Come to think of it, in all the time that I have been playing, I've never actually tried surrendering to an alien. I just thought it'd be instant death.
So Han Solo might have hidden in the secret compartments, but when the aliens absorb the ship into their own hull, it will suddenly be less comfortable for Han.

I surrendered to the alien once, when I knew I was dead (something like 1 crew and hull left and they had boarded). They killed me.
