More from my lexicon : (most of this I make up on the fly)
- Malin. ...- root word malingerer. Can be any age. Most often a human who has been pushed into school and / or N CO military status. Pushed due to naivety usually or unaware parents/peers.
More people are learning about 'malins'
Basically the schools or Corp.funded schools they are in... throw garbage diagnosis at them like ADHD or CHRONIC FATAIGUE SYNDROME....
Because each diagnosis allocates funds from the school. It's all about the Money.
Malins are generally deprived.of any good education and tend to couch surf and whine for head-lozz

True.. our planet is not a city... Far enough from a completely urban wasteland. However there are trends that easily allow one to take an amalgam of today's news, words,concepts ... rip it from newspapers and/or sci-fi , pop culture, etc. Make our lexicon.
Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson films inspire me. Recently the two actors in the film, the Sunset Limited.

Lots of good stuff here, and I didn't even read it all. Off the top, hopefully constructive:
-For Gibson, I don't remember that joyboy necessarily meant prostitute. I always took it more like "adreniline junkie." Wage's joyboys like to start fights, like Molly. But it's been a while since I read all those books.
-Traditionally, a phreak was a specialist in land lines. I think the term is out of use though.

@aegis yeah - ty 4 clarity on phreak. I'm not using a reference so is good to get some specs. A zealot for landlines makes a lot of sense. No backlash ping so to speak.

More definitions:
mainline - the active rush of information
mainliner - a seasoned hacker who knows either by instinct or by physical pain... or both how long to mainline (Seconds per Datapack) and when to disconnect.
Is a reference to IVdrug use. Doctors, nurses and a few others know this stuff and most will never teach you.
a synonym is dataline

teddy bear - reliable friend, often overweight gay man, who will take you in after a round of hardcore mainlining. He can often be a fence, father-figure, brother, priest. If he is younger than he is the teddy boy. Serious hacking not a solo endeavour.

Datura - a vegetable ingredient suggested by the smaller sects. Shamans are best example after that perhaps "medicine men" this sect is older than binary code. Is ancient with roots in pre-colombian culture. So any psychedelic plant that can make one perceive from a hive mind... qualifies. Datura just an easy example as it pretty much grows anywhere.

Hackers get paranoid.. so they need real family and friends. There's nothing they can do to stave off paranoia exceptions: cruel honesty, no booze, cigarettes ok, other smoking products no. This is more a topic than a definition

Define your kind of hacker. Based on my contributions here and in fan fiction is easy to see my kind of hacker has a garden... a real one. Parallels may not be obvious until one thinks about it. I guess I'll write some more fan fiction after Heroes of Steel is funded. thx

LordofSyn @aegis nice. Help clarify? Is an auggie someone cyber-augmented? Link to a Faraday Cage? I dunno what it is. I'll wiki it but would be good to learn from you. What is pronunciation of cishumanist? Like Shishumanist... Scitzhumanist... Cysthumanist? Interesting cuz is timely wit news of the South African Olympic Runner with the dual leg prosthesis whom was charged with murdering his girlfriend.
