This rank 5 Diplomat talent has the following description:
Discount price of Contact Introductions by 10% + Negotiate Skill
3 Week cooldown.
This talent suffers from contacts running out of introductions by mid-game, and the small level of bonus it grants before you get to mid-game. (We're looking at like a 20% discount by rank 10.)
Proposal, make this 20% + Negotiate Skill. (30% discount by rank 10.)
The Diplomat talent Smooth does this:
Utterly practiced at the art of persuasion, +3 Charisma, +2 Wisdom and reduces cost of Contact Introduction by 15%
This is pretty minor, although the stats are nice. If we're making contacts via introduction just a wee bit more attractive, consider keeping that trait as it is but adding "and start with +20% Personal Reputation."

Another interesting (but possibly OP) possibility is “when encountering another craft in the void, reduces hostility by 1.” I don’t know if that would be better as a captain trait or a high-level talent. Thx

That actually basically belongs to the merchant already.

Cool concepts, added +12 Personal Rep as a flat bonus.

Cool concepts, added +12 Personal Rep as a flat bonus. Re-balance Merchant's Cordial Invitation to compensate for Diplomats change to Warm Invitation? The Reputation bonus used to be a unique Merchant talent called Cordial Invitation. I support the change to Diplomat's Warm Invitation. But now the Merchant is left behind. Cordial Invitation does not get a flat rate rep bonus, nor a price discount. Early in the game a +12 flat rate is a big deal. When a Merchant buys a new contact why not Current version Cordial Invitation | Receive up to your Negotiate Skill in Reputation bonus with a new Contact when buying an Introduction |
New modification? Cordial Invitation
| Receive up to your Negotiate Skill in Reputation bonus with a new Contact when buying an Introduction. |
| Gain a Charisma% chance to learn about another contact from local faction.

Hold up. The rep bonus is +20 but it is only applied if your PROFESSION is Diplomat. Meaning, it is the job you chose at character creation. It isn't a talent.

I just realized I misspoke in my first post. I wasn't referring to a talent "Smooth" but a trait "smooth" which is the profession trait. The talent listed was not changed.

Makes Smooth one very nice trait. I have a Merchant, Diplomat, Explorer Captain. So if he gets the smooth trait, I'm hoping it will stack with Merchant talent Cordial Invitation. Thanks for the clarity +1k

The Smooth trait is only given if your first job on your captain is a Diplomat.

I think this is a great change - I think the Diplomat could use the boost (the trait has gone from trivial to “Wow!”, IMO) but mainly I like the match between flavor and mechanics.
