Playing on iPad
I wanted to try out a character with an off-hand blade and just wanted to know how you all do it. I was hoping to do it with my Commander captain with jobs in Military Officer and Zealot but it ends up being mediocre in everything. Do I need to go pure fighter like pistoleer/swordsman?
more generally, what’s the point of getting to use two weapons? Pistol and sword initiative appear similar.
thanks in advance!

One advantage is gaining the Parry of the offhand blade to defend against melee attacks.
A second advantage is being able to use a wider variety of Talents.

I am doing a lot better with doctor/combat medic/swordsman officers than I ever did with doctor/combat medic/pistoleers. If your combat medic is going to sit in position 1 or 2 (because your snipers want 3 and 4) he needs to parry blade attacks. evasion from pistoleer does not help when the problem is people slashing you not shooting you. When buying off hand weapons from the weapons dealer for doctor/combat medic/swordsmen, don't just buy the most expensive thing you can afford, or even the top level you can buy. You want the best parry you can buy. Or at least I do. see how it works for you.
