As it is, the defensive flight plans won't work the turn the interdictor launches.
That takes away a huge part of their power, as especially that T1 is crucial against Xeno. If you take too much damage, you have to repair and buff defense but can't do both simultaneously.
That 1 turn would help a lot and make those flight plans a lot more appealing imo.

They won't catch enemy missiles the turn they launch.
They do apply the buff.

Huh, I guess I didn't notice they don't intercept missiles immediately. I agree with this suggestion.

Yes, they do not intercept torps on the turn they launch. That would grant basic invulnerability against torps -- just launch 4 interdictors.
This isn't one we plan to change, however, upcoming release --
- Interdictors on defensive flight plans now land after the final turn instead of waiting one last turn to only land (just like offensive flight plans)

Yes, they do not intercept torps on the turn they launch. Interesting implications regarding what’s going on with ship combat - They can’t intercept first shots ... because they don’t know the enemy’s position well enough? With Electronics and Pilot as the pair giving defense dice, ship combat seems like it might be something like dogfighting submarines. Cool.

Getting up to speed, getting systems online? So the interval between when it’s known - or even seriously suspected - there will be combat, and the ships being in range for the first torp attack, is less than the time required to launch the fighters and get them “online.” To me that very much implies a submarine-like sneakiness on the part of the ships - you *don’t* see them coming. Not for very long/far, at least, or the interdictors could launch earlier. It’d use up some flight time, but they’d be in place to intercept that first, potentially Crippling, attack. Not only does Electronics as a defense imply ships are tricky to find and target, with Sig Dampers they can effectively even hide. Maybe FTL travel gives a type of opaqueness to space, or maybe it’s just that ships are tiny objects, nearly indistinguishable from the vacuum in the unthinkablely vast void. Either way, thier interactions seem analogous in many ways to sub hunting sub, even if the speeds and distances are utterly different. Even at range 1 the enemy may be unable to hit you not because you’re dodging, but because you’re under a sea of static.

Sounds like there could be a cool parallel to Flash Charge that allowed you to pre-launch an Interdictor.

Sounds like there could be a cool parallel to Flash Charge that allowed you to pre-launch an Interdictor. I want that O.o But it has to be usable from missions. It's such a pain starting at 5 range against Xeno when your weaponry is Railgun and shorter and you got 4 flash charge you usually lean on.
