I see that pilot skills is good for landing, also Ancient Reactors giving +6 engines for landing...
but for now i didnt occur any accident or something like this.
i just didnt get it what for are those engines.
Cory, could you write more about landing, or what could happen if something goes wrong?

When I say "Landing" I mean the process of taking the ship to either an Urban Zone or a Wilderness Zone.
Solar Sails are critical for high-speed movement across deep space, but they must be folded up in orbit of a planet.
Entering a planet's atmosphere is all work done by the Engines. The "accidents" are the same as deep space -- the ship is damaged, the crew is killed and patrol ships spot you.
--
Perhaps you have noticed that combat in orbit is very different -- that is because everyone's solar sails are folded! Even the most optimized deep space cruiser has to deal with gravity and HPO issues =)

1) so engines and good pilot skill can substitute stealth skill when landing? 2) well ... to be honest... not really fightng by my millitary officer looks: advance, advance, board, duel, duel by my explorer looks: advance, advance, engines few times (agains merchants or smugglers) or 1-2 retreats against others sometimes need more clicks but scheme is the same i saw that when enemy is facing you, you cant realy hit his engines (running merchant/smugglers are easy hit), but didnt think of it in therms of orbit-deep space combat looks like I need to test that btw - ramming is nice today i have situation when i was without guns and torpedos (and only with 4 crew on board) and i met faster smuggler's ship from fraction which set bounty on me. ramming was my only option... and i WON Good old Vea Victus is still strong ship

Ram is a desperate action but it shakes up the enemy Crew and, if you are successful gains a lot of range!

Solar Sails are folded? So that affects torpedo accuracy, right? The level of detail in this game is amazing!
Maybe the Solar Sails ratio should reflect this in combat.
The military officer could toast a reminder if you've got one or the ship could look different?

yes fighting missile battles in orbit is bad idea.
orbital combat vs. deep space combat varies in a number of ways.
it isn't documented very well (at all?) but if you get the hang of it, it can help a lot
currently, the enemy AI doesn't really take it into account either.
