Hi guys!
I love this game and love you all! This community is great and that more than anything has kept me coming back to this game. That said I have an suggestion.
I do not play on impossible where my captain can die and the game ends. I am too old to dump 10 or 20 hours into a game only to have it all end abruptly due to a single bad RNG roll. I play on custom, mimicking impossible settings as much as possible with the exception of captain death. The solution I came up with seems easy enough in concept but Im not sure how hard it would be to code and implement.
The idea is simply to promote a new captain from your officer pool if the captain were to die. Being a replacement they get no captain job bonus but otherwise the game can carry on by promoting from within.
One of the funnest aspects of this game is having individual crew members. Being able to promote them and customize them is one of the games strengths and the ability to promote a new captain would play into that strength. This assumes some survivors of course. I presume a ship can still be lost with all hands if a Xeno blows it up, etc. but losing the game to a devastating ship battle is much more acceptable than my captain missing a roll and falling down the stairs to his death on his way to the toilet one night.
Keep up the great work guys! Id love to hear some feedback from anyone with an opinion.
Cheers

sgtsammich - very cool concept that has been discussed multiple times. However, it isn't within the scope of the game or within the lore as the charter goes back to the captain's family for a new generation of star trader to be selected.
