The prices of component upgrade tiers are often too close to each other.
It makes no sense to bother for anything in between if you can easily skip 2-3 tiers and immediately pick the last upgrade tier.
For example:
Barracks 1: 23.5
Barracks 2: 27.3
Barracks 3: 33.9
Barracks 4: 42.5
Or worse:
Missile, small, 1: 13.5
Missile, small, 2: 13.8
Missile, small, 3: 18
Missile, small, 4: 26.6
Missile, small, 5: 32.5
Missile, medium, 1: 23.5
Missile, medium, 2: 26.8
Missile, medium, 3: 40.4
Missile, medium, 4: 58.6
In comparison to:
Bridge 1: 34.3
Bridge 2: 65
Bridge 3: 152.9
Bridge 4: 389.5
There are more good and bad examples.
As the mission rewards look quite/too generous, the game will only loose motivation to save money for upgrades in the long run. During the first 2-3 years, you can easily maximize your ship’s armament and other components with few exceptions, like the unspectacular bridge upgrades.
Another idea to slow down upgrades is adding permits and ranks or simply reputation as requirement, basically as license, to allow purchasing higher tier upgrades. I can't imagine a faction that easily gives away their best gear to strangers.
Independents simply shouldn't offer all the high-end gear then and possibly have higher prices without these ranking requirements.

It know, it's too late for such requirement design change, but I'd definitely revisit some components and raise their prices. Not everything must cost a fortune, but the high upgrade tiers must cost more than the reward of the first couple of missions you are doing in a game session.
Unfornutely, the total ship prices are going to change then what could require some further adjustments to the starter ship budgets. I still see the money-saving motivation as more important in the game.
