So I've been playing on ultra easy( custom with all the assists) starting a captain today on normal. Went with an explorer captain( mainly for the 10 percent fuel economy trait) with A attributes B skill C contact D ship (juror) and E experience Cadar.

Welcome, and Good luck! I'd swap D and E next time were I you -- the juror can still be bought, and the little bit of experience keeps you from crashing into the stardock the first few weeks while your crew doesn't really know how to do anything.

I always put experience at E in every build I've done so far. To be honest, I would have the ship at D and start off with a bit of extra spending cash for a pilot assist module than an extra level on the captain.

The extra cash helps make ship a little better. The extra captain level allows you to choose a class on the officers which let's you recruit better crew right away.
