Sorry to jump in but I just came here to post about this very issue.
After reading it all and based on what I was thinking it's both related.
I get you click the waypoint and it's the same as accepting with an auto wp placement. But I too want to see the [galactic] map before I accept much less change the WP that is set.
This could be solved by doing like in other areas where you select the choice and "ping" a position on a map. Enable the << with the [Galactic] map in the background instead of the offered services page would do it no?...
Otherwise like I believe the OP was saying, remember the names, click the map, bring up [galactic] look at the overlay based on your existing mission markers, then you have to [esc] / back out...and then start from orbit...land, contact, mission, and THEN accept or move on the the next one. If they have 5 missions offered it makes a long but necessary process.
I think the actual thing is if you're just shooting A->B->C then the waypoint is super fast and great. But if you are trying to see if this route overlaps the the dozen you have already planned out...it's not only painful but clicking WP even if you want to accept it often would mean you have to reset your original WP so it becomes a much less used option.

The Waypoint button is specifically for those "shooting A->B->C" and was added base on constant player feedback that "I accept a mission, then have to exit to the map, open missions list, click the mission, then click waypoint" which is a few clicks too many So, you can just click Accept if that fits your playstyle. Sorry you don't find use in the other button, but everyone plays differently. Yes, its on our list to add the ability to see offered missions on the galactic map.
