I was known as the best of the best. I had power, fame, money. Basically anything a star trader could dream off.
But the thing I was the most proud about was my perfect contract record.
Everyone knew that if they offered me a contract, no matter the pay, location or target, I would accept and complete it.
While that made me a lot of friends in the galaxy and fame with all the factions, I must have made some enemies too.
And when I landed on the Steel song clan home planet their plan sprung into action.
The palace didn't have any jobs for me so I entered the local spice den looking to take on the first job they offered.
It seemed like a pretty simple one, just deliver 46 plants to a nearby independant planet. I had done delivery missions for twice that amount so this one should have been easy. I bought the few plants available on their planet and prepared to go and buy the other ones.
But my ship had only just lifted out of orbit as the problems arrived. The steel song clan, the very faction I was doing work for, issued a trade embargo against the DeValtos. I only had Cadar left to buy from.
There was an indy planet nearby though so I went there first. However, there were no plants to be found on their exchange.
While flying to the next planet to buy from another embargo was issued. Steel song against Cadar. I was locked out of the exchange on all faction planets.
Desperately I flew from indy planet to planet, in the hopes of finding enough plants in time. Slowly but surely my cargo started to fill up with life.
Then a miracle happened. Only a few dozen weeks before the deadline, the embargo against my home faction, Javat, was lifted.
One of their planets was nearby so I managed to buy almost enough plants. Only 6 more to go. On my next indy stop I managed to gather 3 more plants but time was running out so my only hope was to be able to buy the last plants on the target planet.
On my way to there I was constantly slowed down by steel song pirates. I defeated every last one of them, but none of them had the plants I needed.
Despite the constant pirates I arrived just in time on the indy planet. I ran to the exchange, only to discover that there were only 2 plants on sale. With 45 plants in my cargo and no more time on the clock I had no other choice then to fail this contract. My first loss.
Only afterwards I realised that this must have been a setup. They knew about my perfect record and pulled the strings with the trade embargos with the clear goal of making me fail. I should have known better then to do business with those traitorous pirates.
While I still have power, fame and money. It all doesn't matter anymore since I have lost my purpose. My perfect record will never return again.
But I swear vengeance against the Steel song. They might have won the battle against me, but they have made an enemy this day.
