VERY short, but Chummer I need this board to liiiiiive!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Cyber Knight Rob waited just long enough for the door to crack open before he shoulder charged it. The thin metal slammed inwards, hitting his target with a meaty thump. The shotgun fell to the ground. The target scrambled after it. Rob casually kicked it away and hauled the skinny man off the ground. His eyes bulged as he dangled. Rob socked him once, then twice. Blood flew out of his mouth as at least one tooth fell to the floor. Rob slammed Larry against the wall, his fist still dripping from ragged metal edges on the cold steel of his glove.
Larry whimpered, his pants turning darker down to his leg. Once upon a time, Rob would have felt pity. But once upon a time, he was not who he was. Not what he was now. Rob instead leaned forward, crushing the man against the wall until he could barely breathe.
"Pay him back."
Mute, Larry nodded. Tears mixed with blood. Rob reached into his pockets and put the credstick into his own. His employer allowed it. How they expected Larry to pay then was not his business. Some things were better left unasked.Haven taken what he wanted-- confirmation and easy money-- Rob threw Larry onto the floor. The man was too dazed and pained to notice, but as part caution and part greed, he took the shotgun.
Before he even reached the door, he knew it was crap that would probably not pierce anything stronger than a plated shirt. But maybe it would catch a good price at the pawn broker. It may even be good for a few rounds. He has just finished loading it when he heard footsteps.
The owner flinched at the shotgun in his face. "You have a phone call."
How had a known… Right, it was hard to miss a Cyber Knight in the building. He felt a surge of pride.
Rob casually shouldered the shotgun and walked downstairs. It was impractical-- the gun wouldn't come to bear as quickly as he would've liked, but it intimidated people more than his rusted brass glove. He was rewarded with huddled customers who didn't dare to even glance at him. He settled into the booth and tapped his code into the terminal. The shotgun leaned against the wall as the image of a faceless man in a Brave Star uniform flickered in the screen.
"Mission done," Rob said to the silent contact. "You'll get your money."
There was only a slight pause before the terminal indicated for him to hook up his arm. 200 credits. He disconnected the cable.
"Have a good day." Rob took the shotgun as he rose. He pushed open the booth door and stared down the barrel of a much stronger shotgun. He swung his own shotgun to bear-- the damn thing was so impractical!-- but the Brave Star officer shot first. It killed him instantly.
Another day, another CK.
