Hello I would like to create a character of questionable virtues to achieve the assassin award (Erik Faen quest) and also the 20 and 50 crew battle achievement for the vindex and other ship. I am not sure which class to start as, although I have been thinking bounty hunter or pirate would be good. I also don't know how to position my attributes, skills, ship, contacts and experience; or indeed how to distribute points. I solely want to achieve these awards so long term isn't as important. I guess starting faction is important to so I can Crew battle indies to save rep. Can anyone help to create a template. I have unlocked most of the other achievements.

I'm actually not sure whether assassinating the Heir and getting the crew battle achievements together is the most opportune way to go about things. You may end up with conflicting interests early on, as you need time to run the young Faen's missions - but upgrading your ship quickly in order to even get to the crew battle stage is necessary, too. The whole thing boils down to time-management more than character setup, in my mind.
You can save time by investing in a Dragoon Cruiser as starting ship, for instance. That's ~500 grand you do not have to earn running missions, in order to buy a more solid vessel. And being able to gradually invest into upgrades from the start -without having to save for a new hull first- improves chances of survival dramatically.
That said, I'd go with a boarding specialist for these challenges. Bounty Hunter is a solid choice, because that allows you to do the following: - play the Captain from position 2 - promote the Swordsman in your starting crew (with usually good stats), position 1 - Doctor officer as Combat Medic, position 3 - promote one of the Soldiers, position 4
No hiring required, and these guys will get a bit of experience while you scramble for credits.
I would suggest: Ship > Attributes > Skills > Contacts
Attributes for your Captain should be maxed Strength/Quickness.* Skill points probably into Evasion, for the most part. A useful second profession is Soldier, as "Steadfast Aim" / "Roaring Barrels" coupled with a "shotgun" mounts to fairly amazing damage potential.
If that doesn't work out for you, I'm sure someone else can provide a completely different take on it all. The game is really beautiful in the freedom it provides.
* If you really want to min/max Attributes, you can instead start as Xeno Hunter (then Bounty Hunter / Soldier) and leave Resilience at the bare minimum, to free up more points for Wisdom (Initiative) and/or Hit Points. Morale won't be an issue.. but getting knocked out is not recommended. ^.^

You should not try to do the fean story achivement and the timed ship battle achivement in one go. For the ship battles I would make a commander and priorize for the best ship you can get. Hire some mechanics for orchestrated salvage and go patrolling the fean world. Fight ships salvage them for loot and repair at the planet. give it 2 or 3 tries and keep in mind that you can save scum the first 100 turns.
