Start a new ironman run (not NG+), speed through the missions without deaths while collecting all secondaries killing lots of xeno and win. If you only manage to achieve some of this, you may not win after all, but see Scoring below. The winner is the squad with the highest score (*not* the leaderboard score) having just completed the Hive Mind mission. Actually, runs ending before the Hive Mind can be scored too, but they are unlikely to be very competitive.
The scoring is designed to give as much freedom as possible on how to assemble squads, to heavily penalize deaths and slowness.
When reporting a score, include the Captain's experience, the number of dead and the total number of turns played.
Prizes are yet to be determined.
Cheers, Gábor
PS: Skipping the tutorial is suboptimal. Don't.
Scoring -------
C: captain's current exp (as displayed in the list of veterans) D: number of dead (in the list of veterans filter for the dead) T: total number of turns (as displayed in the Records)
Score = C - 165 * D - 165/38 * T
- Every death is roughly like losing one mission's worth of experience. - Finishing missions 1 turn faster on average over the course of the first 38 missions of the campaign is like gaining one mission's worth of score. The 38 comes from counting the missions up to but not including Stratos, including the tutorial. - All other factors such as kill rates and secondaries factor only indirectly in the score through their effect on experience.
So with C=6000 XP, D=1 deaths, T=600 turns, the score is 3229.7368. It's the same score with D=0, T=600+38 and D=2, T=600-38.

To throw down the gauntlet, let me report two results from previous runs, not optimized for this contest:
- Captain Tortugon (5866XP, 2 deaths, 1102 turns): score is 751.0 - Captain Fortius (6319XP, 0 deaths, 628 turns): score is 3592.158

Consider cross-posting/advertising on Steam forums? Is there a TBF reddit? If so, maybe there too?

I only have a brand new account on Steam which is barred from posting. Could you or someone else with a Steam account cross-post this there, please? I haven't been able to find a TBF reddit.

Quick update:
Just completed Rubic 5. It has been 184 turns in total so far, 0 deaths, 3885 XP for the Captain which translates into 3099 points. The XP of other templars does not affect the score, and in my rush to greedily maximize the score I badly neglected their development. I have L18, L18, L18, L17, L13 and four templars at the rock bottom of L11. This may develop into quite a problem by the time Moklumnue Prime rolls around.

Finished Hive Mind. 290 turns total, 0 deaths, 6455 XP for the Captain. That's 5196 points. Did the Kaldun branch, too. That's 7.63 turns per mission on average. The scoring is a bit too biased for speed. Longest missions: - Deck 14: Alta Sector, 16 turns (goal: 18) - Detonation Site: 15 turns (goal: 20) Closest call: Kaldun Factory Core South (11 turns with a split team). Most used talents: - Rallying Charge 10 - Frag Grenades 10 - Pressing Need 4/8 - Crippling Fire 8 - Landmines 2 - Sentry Turret 1/3/5/7 - Heat Sink 3-5 Situational talents: - Capture 6 - Engineer's Grapple - Fire Commander Screenshots of the final states: photos.app.goo.gl/xEiy1qEnGqqMbbnr9
