Quick back story is I converted my Aegis Freighter into a 2x Advanced Launch bay + 2x Hanger Bay
Added in appropriate Wing(ers).
Level up crew...and this is where *I* messed up.
Just my habit but I do Fighters, Officers, then crew manually.
Well "Fighters" includes Commando and (t)here is my mistake.
I assigned the only talent point I had for my Commando to a "crew combat" talent.
And that means he doesn't have any flight plan talents...so cannot use the craft he is assigned too.
Soon as he levels I will retrain.
But my suggestion is should craft crew come with at least one basic talent to let them do their job however minimally?
Just like all crew can use a weapon in combat...
Edit: or maybe being able to re-train in between level advancement...?

You can Retrain them at any point, resetting all Talent points and redistributing them.

Be on a planet. select the "Talents" list for a crew don't select any talent you'll see a "Retrain" button it costs money depending on your difficulty |

Ok. At the risk of getting beaten to death by you guys...is it at all possible a specific planet might have been the reason I was unable to re-train? Reason I ask is I swear I was not able to retrain while in port because when I realized my mistake I went to the closest planet to do just that. Now I've also read the link you included and it says "While in a colonized zone (not a wild zone, in orbit or in deep space)" -thanks drspendlove *However* right now I'm on a wilderness only planet (Cael Reach: Warren's Landing: Lirosa Glacier. "Indie Wilderness" Explore 1, Richness 10, Danger 4) and I can re-train on the surface or in orbit. In fact I can retrain anywhere EXCEPT deep space. Which brings me full circle back to I swear I was not able to do this on a colonized planet before...Now I realize all of this is somewhat of a moot issue because 1) clearly I can do what I originally asked and more and 2) even if it is in fact planet specific, I have no idea what planet it was... So I do apologize for wasting your time with this one. And should I come across a specific colonized planet where I cannot retrain; I'll probably be to embarrassed to bring it up.  |

Whoa, that sounds like a bug that you can re-train on a wilderness planet.
