So maybe im concerned over nothing by not being educated enough on the underlying maths that make the game work. But my concern is this: It seems that as you progress the higher ship pools go towards being a higher mass ship. Which is fine as I ultimately crave the carrier style anyway. But the engines speed and agility is always outclassed by other ships. How important is speed Agility advantage? Is it something that is a decent boost at lower levels and then through good crew planning and component pairing it is more than compensating for the fact your engines are trying to move a massive hulk? Im guessing that's probably it just looking for some confirmation and also maybe ideas for what to do to help with evading weapons with a 9000 mass ship. Thanks.

There are also bonuses/penalties versus small craft for having sluggish engines. See the "Small Craft" page for those details.
