I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a feature I don't understand, but it seems like a lot of the time when I sell goods at the exhange, I don't get paid. Does this have to do with trade bans/embargos? I have a cargo full of goods waiting to be sold at immense profit... :-)

Hi and welcome to the forums. Sound like a bug to me. Do you have any more information on how exactly this happens? When you sell one unit of cargo, your money just stay still?

Yes, exactly. No matter how many units I sell, my account balance is unchanged. It doesn't seem to be very consistant. Sometimes I can sell normally and other times I don't get paid, so I always sell one unit first. I think it might have to do with notifications that I am breaking a trade embargo? I'll make a new captain and test that theory.
BTW I am running the free version on a Samsung Stratosphere using Honeycomb (I think 2.3.5)

Honeycomb is 3.x and what version of ST RPG are you using?

My test: Free installs of all 4 versions of the game on 2 Honeycomb devices.
All of them have working Exchanges for 5 characters each (4 * 2 * 5 = 40 tests.)
Each on purchased 4 units of all resources, moved to another planet and sold 4 units, checking balance between each one.
So several hundred trades in several versions on multiple devices and I haven't had an issue yet. With tens of thousands of players, when there are bugs like this I tend to get a ton of e-mail and most of the email this week is from people who are misunderstanding Awards.
