Hello!
I have been having fun learning STF, and while I am still learning, I thought I would share a few ideas for enhancements.
One of the conflicts I'm having is … "Ooooh… my gunner has these awesome innate diplomatic skills! But if I promote him, he will be gunner and only two other classes, the gunner abilities don't mesh at all. Might be better to wait and recruit a specialist." Which sometimes can be, well, frustrating as only certain professions match optimally with certain promotion choices.
Then this idea occurred to me. You are already resetting all the talent and job choices back to level 1, and I get that the level 1 in original class respects the character's history. But what if instead of having that odd floating level one, you could choose to convert those starting ranks into innate skills - effectively bonus dice? Then you could completely leave behind the gunner class, and go full on diplomat/merchant/smuggler officer to your heart's content. You can even do a prompt 'start as new class?' or something like that.
It might add some flexibility.
Other ideas I've read discussions on - in switching ship / multi-ship I've read sometimes you permanently have to say goodbye to crew. I'll add my two cents and want to save them too in some capacity! On retainer with x cooldown and have to raise their salary to bring them back to your ship, or something like that. They can work other ships, but having the option to buy them back would be cool. They could even stay on the same crew screen, just 'locked' until you buy them back.
It would also be cool to be able to control a small fleet of say up to three ships. Imagine the combat possibilities! Its not happening, I know, but I was envisioning something like up to three 'lanes' of the ship combat screen, but you could choose to fire diagonally instead of closing in with your main opponent and there could be an option to move /switch with ship up or down. Like a boarding ship taking fire from a second enemy ship while you are still boarding the first would be wild. It also might add some challenges for late game play. Imagine challenges so tough where you could send three ships in and only one might emerge? Or one of your ships crash and you dispatch one of your other ships to try and rescue the stranded crew? Could be fun! Also who wouldn't love promoting favorite officers to junior captain? Or having to manage junior captain morale and risk them bailing and taking your second ship from you? :-)
Thanks for a great game, and looking forward to more in the future!
