Hi,
I'm no means an expert of the game yet, but I enjoy analyzing data.
So for those that want to keep your crew at 30 and are having a tough time picking out two primary ships to carry you deeper into the game from a long list of sixty or so ships to pick from, this might be helpful.
The winners of this are:
Cargo and Missions:
Boarder:
Carrier:
Small Combat Ship (3400 mass):
Enjoy!

So for those that want to keep your crew at 30 and are having a tough time picking out two primary ships to carry you deeper into the game from a long list of sixty or so ships to pick from, this might be helpful.
The winners of this are:
Cargo and Missions:
- Galtak Freighter. It's cheap with a big cargo hold, and you can start the game with it after a fairly easy unlock. Layout of components are efficient without requiring much swapped out. Lots to love.
- Arcanum Freighter. If you don't start with a cargo hauler, this may be worth the $780,000 investment. 135 cargo, two more medium slots than the Galtak, better shields and armor, better engine, officer suites, and appropriate long range weapons. Requires being friendly with Clan Zenrin.
Boarder:
- Solar Predator. This had tough competition, but what won me over is the ship starts with a large medic bay already installed. Great for patching up your crew after a fight. Comes equipped with Railguns and Lances for fighting up close, passenger cabin for missions, 50 cargo, and its fuel efficient on the map at 2 AU. At $390,000 it's great.
Carrier:
- Strikecarrier. There were only two carrier ships at 30 crew. The Strikecarrier comes with a battle bridge, more component space, and weapons already dedicated to long range. Admittedly fuel is expensive at 4 AU.
- Victus Interceptor. The Victus is a smaller and cheaper ship that comes with a launch bay, and it is faster on the map at 24 Speed and 2 AU for fuel. Very reasonable alternative, but it also requires an unlock to access.
Small Combat Ship (3400 mass):
- Sword Cutter. This ship requires being friendly with Cadar, but if you buy this ship, you can dominate mid-range ship combat. It comes with missiles and rail guns, a scout bridge and officer suite, 1900 hull, and crazy good speed and agility.
- Wolf Vector. If you would rather dominate from long range, this is your ship. It comes with missiles and torpedoes, and is very comparable in performance and starting components to the Sword Cutter. A good choice if you can't get the Sword Cutter.
Enjoy!
