So, I spent a wad of yen on a hacker runner. And, concerned with my rapidly deteriorating humanity, I outfitted HIM with a dataport and some other 'ware.
Before I can make it to a matrix jack, surprise surprise, I got jumped by a bunch of my purported "allies." My team and I made quick work of the uppity kids and upon searching their broken corpses, I found a copy of "Persona Fixers and Runners of the NBZ"
This was new to me. So I read it.
Huh?
Runners can't access the Matrix? So what's the point of a hacker runner?

Oh, I did. But it makes me wonder why I could even purchase a dataport for a runner!

The hacker can plug into *you* and then you plug into the matrix. So you get the benefits of the hacker's hacking skills, which can therefore be a whole lot higher thant your own. I do think that some of the implants should be marked 'Cyber Knight Only' so you don't waste money on them, and if a runner tries to buy them anyway they should get a dialog saying that they need to become a CyberKnight before they can use this sort of implant.

tbrass - just make sure that you have your Hacker Runner selected (his / her pictures showing in the HUD) when you go to the terminal. In that case, the Runner will plug into the Cyber Knight who plugs into the Matrix. The capabilities of the Cyber Knights neuro implant makes it all possible, but your Hacker "tunnels" through the CK.

fallen thank you for clarifying. Is it actually augmentation? if my character has 3 hack+dataport1, and I have a runner w/ 9 hack, are we functioning at 13 hack? Is the active runner plug-in trait true for all skills? e.g. to break in, one could have an agent with high electronics augment your own skills? If so, could there be any way of having a dedicated medic on the team? As in, an AgentEx who can medkit other runners? Even during battle? Just a thought. . .

The hacker can plug into *you* and then you plug into the matrix. I know you don't mean to sound obscene, grav, but DAMN! I could never wash that horrible image from my mind!

tbrass - no skill augmentation occurs. If the Runner is tunneling through a Knight, the Runner goes into a state of unconscious, but the Knight stays conscious can can watch over him or her. The Runner uses her Hacking skill (based on her own skill and implants). We are working more on the active character concept throughout the game system so that your team members can take more ownership of different activities and bring value to the Knight where the Knight lacks skills. When using medkits, the electronics skill of the active character is always used.

we are working on better item use during combat, medkits for example could be used on adjacent friendly characters allowing a medic style team member
