Ok. That's one that annoys me. I pirate a Rychart ship. Rychart and Zenrin are in a trade war. Zenrin should not get mad at me for selling the pirated goods!

I'm suuure you pirated those goods. I, an honest merchant, definitely pirated the goods that I definitely didn't buy from Rychart.
Teasing aside, that's the logic used. Any trader could claim they were stolen and that they shouldn't be punished.

That you are penalized for selling goods to a faction in a Trade Ban demonstrates that there are faction agents in every exchange that would be able to tell whether or not you bought goods from a faction exchange in a Trade War.

Ah, you might be right. That was just the story/joke Andrew or Cory told me once.

If you are selling those goods at a legal exchange, you are selling them in the open, legally claiming them as your own cargo, not as a pirate.
To avoid Reputation damage, you want to sell those in the Black Market, as stolen goods.

If you are selling those goods at a legal exchange, you are selling them in the open, legally claiming them as your own cargo, not as a pirate. To avoid Reputation damage, you want to sell those in the Black Market, as stolen goods. That is how it should be but the big problem here is the design decision to lock the black market behind contacts which is a mistake imho. To sell your pirated goods you need 1. A black market contact.. 2. Who likes you enough.. 3. Who is powerfull enough.. 4. Who sits on the right planet for the goods you have to sale 5. And you need some black market talents to reliable get access without your cargo beeing confiscated etc. That is hard to do for a specialised smuggler at the game start for a pirat it is impossible. If I was asked how the black market should be changed I would come up to something like this 1. Planets have a Black Market rating that indicates if the planet has a black market and how big that market is (depends on factors like Planets economy, trade laws, government rating and nerby other black marktest). 2. To access a black market one needs a crew member with a certain skill (probably Smugglers should have this and perhaps pirats and spies and high level merchants) 3. Black Market relatet Characters (like all kinds of smugglers) Should only be found in places with a black market. Instead of giving access they improve your access depending on their influence. Aside that I would suggest that certain Contacts buy certain goods directly from you. 1. This would be limited to certain goods that the contact is trading for example a weapon smuggler buys weapons of all kind, a spice smuggler buys all kind of spice stuff a xeno-fscinated contact buys xeno artifacts. 2. The price you get wont be the best (the character wants to make a profit of it after all) but it would be a way to dump certain stuff reliably. 3. The amount they buy would probably be related to their influence (the more powerfull your weapons smuggler is the more stuff he might want to trade.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry you dislike the Black Market cerseisadvocate. I was answering the question about how to sell pirated goods in a way that dodges Reputation loss. By selling these goods on the legal exchange, you are subject to all the legal rules.
