Discerning Glance / Recruiter's Eye generate bad gameplay

Hi, ST:F team!

First and foremost, I have been really enjoying your game. I was looking for something, unsure of what I wanted, and ST:F was just it. Thanks for making it happen!

Now, onto the issue – I find myself very dissatisfied with the gameplay generated by the Commander's Discerning Glance and the Military Officer's Recruiter's Eye talent.

These are, save for some very specific combinations, unavailable at the start.

So what ends up happening is this:

1. You start off with your crew, and expand it as you go.
2. You fight, adventure and grow attached to your beloved crew.
3. You eventually get a crew/officer with Discerning Glance / Recruiter's Eye.
4. Slowly, you fire the people you came to love to get people with better stats.
5. You eventually fire the crew/officer with Discerning Glance / Recruiter's Eye for another crewmember with the same talent, but with boosted stats, because why not?

All in all, this feels stilted, and makes you feel detached of your crew and sets you up for avoiding bonding with them. I feel like this is a gameplay issue and an RPG issue both.

As for suggested fixes, I personally believe the easiest one would be allowing some Contacts to have a Rigorous Training option, which allows you to boost a Crew/Officer into the 100-110 average of boosted recruits too, but it has no effect on already boosted recruits.

This would likely require a flag for recruits with stronger attributes so they are inelegible for it.

Sorry that you find the Talent and recruiting cycle so unfortunate. The game is about the evolution of a crew, not a static set of characters you got at the beginning. There are lots of ways to gain Attribute bonuses, and those Talents are a part of a larger progression. Attributes are set upon recruiting, except for the addition of gear. There will not be a service to increase Attributes offered by Contacts.
