Junker: Every remnant of scrap has a use, fixes 2 ship components up to Repair Skill whenever salvaging a destroyed ship or drawing a Salvage card that grants Credits
Roughneck: Rough but durable and approachable, +2 Fortitude, +2 Wisdom and gains 10% chance to learn a Salvage Rumor when Spicing
"Sufficiently useful" compared to other profession traits, when used on Impossible difficulty or higher.

The second one, with the chance of salvage rumor is very good, but as for the first it seems very underwhelming for a captain trait, simply because it's so limited by situation. You might not fight enough to salvage many ships, or you may destroy engines or kill crew and not want to destroy the ship. And there's so many other cards on orbitals that limiting it to credit rewards makes it too rare for a Captain trait.
Maybe if it gave a reduced chance for smaller repairs on any positive result?

I agree. Roughneck is a really good captain trait, just powerful enough. Junker is weak. It would probably be a pain to implement, but would be really unique, if the reward could include either repair, healing, or morale fixing depending on what the ship/crew need at the moment. Really highlight the resourcefulness and utility of the Scavenger.
