Being new to the game, I would very much like the possibility of adjusting the pacing of the main story line missions. I find that I have no time to fix things I need for my ship, such as finding new contacts that will allow me to setup crew and officers as needed, while also making enough money to upgrade the ship without running out of time for story line missions.
Perhaps I just need to get better. Perhaps I need to unlock additional contacts to be able to do all these things quickly enough. Either way, it is still a bit frustrating to feel like there is only one way to play the game while following the story line when starting out. At the same time, I really want to see how the main story line plays out. Playing on hard also means that failure equals restarting and then for the most part having to do the same exact steps over and over and over.
It would be very nice if there was an option to adjust story line timers with a slider from 50% to 200% or something like that. At least on difficulties up to and including hard, because that is the first difficulty without save points.

Sorry, this isn't something possible in STF. We've addressed it in CKF.
Suggestions: 1) use a smaller, faster ship 2) use a smaller map 3) play on lower difficulty

I think for STF, this is just a case of learning to play more efficiently or lowering the difficulty and not worrying. Or raising the difficulty and not worrying, because you're just trying to survive.
