I used to play a lot of Age of Pirates, and i liked stealing enemy warships. I assume this feature didn't make it to STF because it would make the game too easy. Anyway, is there some sort of lore to explain why a captain can't steal a ship?

I thought this idea actually originated in AoP, but I could be wrong.

It goes back at least to Sid Meier's Pirates, which was released in 1987. But it's very historical: not only did pirates often sail in ships they had captured, but actual navies often used captured ships in their own service, and paid captains and crews "prizes" for capturing them (hence the term "prize ship"). So it's not surprising the feature would turn up in multiple games.

Hopefully it was obvious I wasn't trying to say it was an original idea in AoP.
Age of Pirates was the first game of ours that featured a Conflict driven ship capturing feature.
Mostly inspired by Uncharted Waters IIRC.
