does artifact + veteran officer only help when boarding xeno?
or it also helps when gunning/torping?
i always bring veteran although im not a xeno hunter, just in case i meet one and need to run away, i assume veteran officer helped us when we try to ignore/retreat

IIRC the description in the help file says that it improves all attack roles (although it has been years since playing STRPG so I might be misremembering), so artifacts with a veteran officer should help with torps, gunning, and boarding. However, artifacts can be trouble as they give strong boarding combat bonuses to some xeno AI types. Artifacts also make it more likely for you to encounter xenos, so I don't recommend carrying them if you are trying to avoid them.

The officer gives bonus to fighting aliens (for advance, ram, gun and torpedo)
Artifacts does NOT (IIRC, someone correct me) help with Boarding -- that is reserved for Weapons.
The officer's bonus vs. Xeno is scaled up by Artifacts and (IIRC) some ship upgrades may play a role.

my other boarding captain carry artifact+veteran😔
i know it's better to have the ultimate trio(military, bodyguard, templar)
but 100k from veteran is irresistible
