Ok I read something about Military Officers and Bounty Hunters having special tracking abilities. Since I love blockades I figured I should go with Military Officer instead of explorer. With the contracts to capture or Kill I haven't seen any type of tracking ability. Is this on difficulty higher levels only? I'm playing in Normal. My captain is currently on level 48 with about 15k exp. I didn't get the tracking array because I think I read it was redundant with the Military Officer.

If you do "Surveillance" just before going for your target (usually on the orbit of the planet), you should get message that you were able to track him. If he escapes from the combat you you can try the contract again. I recall that Military officers may need to do Surveillance twice. Just try and you will see .

I have also noticed that you are concerned about how difficulty affects the game. I have asked about it some time ago for another reason, but Cory's response may be useful to you: It just scales a lot of factors to make the game more or less difficult and do not make any fundamental changes affecting game rules. You can safely discuss game strategies without mentioning the game difficulty settings unless your strategy depends on exploiting one of the following impacted values: * All Dice Tests * Enemy Level * ***Resource Availability*** * ***Combat Stat Visibility*** * ***Character Death*** * Space Movement * Exploring * Harvesting * Landing * Ship and Upgrade Availability For example, if your strategy depends on being invulnerable to death then it would not work above Normal. Another example would be if your strategy depends on non-exhaustible resources then it will not work on the higher difficulty settings. The ones in bold are the only mechanical differences based on difficulty.

Thanks! No I never used surveillance before going in. I've only used it for spy wars. Thanks for the additional info as well. I know certain features only come into play on the higher difficulties. I was just wondering if this was one. Now I have to go get some contracts. I've been kept pretty busy with the solar wars and spy battles.

I didn't know that about surveillance either when doing a contract. That's interesting and will have to try that. Any other things like that when it comes to tracking down bounties?

Military Officers and Bounty Hunters and people with Tracking Arrays can track an individual target between ships.
A dedicated Tracking Array enhances both BH and MO skill checks for SURV vs. Contract Target rolls.
Scenario -- I am a BH of Thulun and my target is onboard a Thulun Ship. If I have good intelligence and have successfully SURV then I can Retreat and still later complete the Contract.

Is the ability there for Military Officers in Normal? Most kill or capture contracts I've taken won't have the surveillance button. And those that do, won't track, it works the same as a spy mission collecting records.

I'm still not understanding how I use Surveillance when doing a mission. I had a bounty hunter mission to track someone down and kill them. When I got to the planet I did surveillance first. I was sucessful and there was a quick little blurb out getting extra information. But that was it. Is there somewhere else I can see the information I found out about my bounty? I checked around and couldn't find any info. So I just went Urban and killed my bounty. I really like how this ties in and adds more depth to the missions. I just haven't figured out how to use it all yet. Guess that's part of the fun of the game to me though.

Is it only on certain difficulty levels? I don't have it in Normal.

So you're saying if I did surveillance first, then the target escaped, I would still have the contract and a new location to get the target?

i think that difficulty doesn't matter,but u must be a BH,or a Military officer(if i'm not wrong),or have the Predator Array upgrade It's a particular ability,not a common action =)

Yep. I think you can only do it once though.

Yep. I think you can only do it once though. If you failed twice, it means you suck and should never attempt it again to save yourself from further embarassment. ;D

I'm playing as a Military Officer in Normal and I don't get those options. I have practically looked the other way so a target can escape to test the surveillance option. Most of the contracts won't have a surveillance buttons if they are in deep space etc. Even when one is located where the surveillance button appears, if I allow him to get away such as by acknowledging the ship that pops in, which will fail the contact, it doesn't track him in Normal it appears. Must be for higher difficulties only.
