Terrik — Today at 7:17 PM I know only one talent can fire "at a time", but there is some ambiguity about what that means. It is not just the talent "type" - such as "VICTORY", right? It really comes down to the very specific conditions specified by the talent? Ex. Loot Armory and Magnanimous Victory are both "VICTORY" talents, but I've seen that both can fire during Victory. This seems to be because there are multiple actions that can be performed during victory, and Loot Armory happens specifically during the looting action. Likewise with the various merchant TRADE talents. You can have a "trade >5K" talent and a "trade >50K talent" and the 50k talent will presumably override the >5k talent when applicable.
So it seems the talent "type" isn't sufficient to determine which talents can't fire together. You really need to read the exact talent condition text, and also make assumptions about which takes precedence in cases like the 5k/50k merchant talents? [7:19 PM] If so, it would be nice if there was a way at a glance to group talents based on the exact condition under which they trigger, so it's clear to understand which talents are "fighting" with each other for that trigger (thus guiding decisions about which talents to take, or not to take)

There is a big difference between active Talents such as Loot Armory and Mag Victory which are you selecting to use. When you have the decision to use multiple, consider only if one cancels the condition that would allow the other to work. For active Talents in the scenario you mentioned, you can use multiple.
Passive Talents do not involve user interaction, such as Trade Talents. Only one is run, usually using a priority system. If there is a > 50K talent, then it will run instead of a > 5K Talent.

Thanks fallen, I had rarely ventured into ship combat until recently, and didn't know/understand the distinction with those "manually activated talents". I just had the mantra "one talent triggers per category at a time" in my mind, considering all "VICTORY" talents as falling under such a category.
I'd been avoiding all other Victory-related talents while I wait to get a Diplomat leveled up for Magnanimous victory since that's the primary one I'd want triggered, but now I know I can go ahead and choose one or more other victory talents as well.

Glad I could help! For Mag Victory, its just an ordering thing.
We've improved its description to be more clear for the next update too.
