short title length Small ship starts with say 5 electronics Big ship starts with 20 . Big ship is not 20/5 4 times more effective at spying (at least not during turn 0). Therefore there must be some sort of balancing multiplier similar to engine speed for ship combat. Would seem not very likely to balance blockade/ patrol/ salvage / black market access / explore/ spy card games on engine speed .. (buy faster engine - be better at all those things ) Could it be hull mass (immutable ) ? Could it be something else ? What I'm getting at is big ship is not good for traveling (disqualifies it for many things - missions / rumor hunting / ..) but orbital operation duration MIGHT JUST BE DECOUPLED FROM ENGINE SPEED ! Meaning it makes sense to gear the big ship towards orbital operations where it could excel , at least in the beginning (when not enough capital for trade + surrounded by trade ban) . (- spying being the obvious choice as it provides a way to circumvent low XP gain somewhat by recruiting lvl 8+ from contacts above or at least near average crew level ). And it has room for a few more of those lvl 8+ ..allowing it to hopefully outperform smaller ships at some tasks (hopefully early enough) .. Rychard start again obvious (easiest to steal intel from, best intel steal enhancer module, source of SLY crew ...) Second concern of course is cargo size. IF it cost as some much more damn time moving around - BETTER REDUCE WASTED INCOME POTENTIAL TRAVELING WITH EMPTY cargo.. (take a while to setup - funds and reputation/pirate safety wise ) ..

First, small ships are not equivalent to large ships. If you are worried about cargo space, bigger ships will win.
Much like traveling, a lot if based off of your ship's non-skill stats such as your Electronic component value. The higher this is, the more complex your components. Therefore, your traveling tests are harder.

But big ships do in effect get a bonus in orbital operations, right, given that they have larger skill pools? (And they aren't penalized for low speed and agility like they are in ship combat.)
