(She/Her)
On June First i came across the Magic Set of prefabs for The Four of Us . There was a Davriel , there was a Teyo , and there was a Wanderer .
On June Second i had already trained the Wanderer on how to use VR , how to lock and load a pistol, shotgun, rifle, and sniper rifle , and taught them the basics of how actual real-life Divination and Enchantment work .
On June Third , i had slept with the Teyo (Their exact words when i woke them up with head at three in the morning were "I was hoping this would happen") and the Wanderer had already assembled their own training Habit from a hairband and some lace .
Then it all went to hell . Why? Ka .
Lim .
All three of them had nervous breakdowns . The Teyo got fishhooked by a renegade Overdriver and started texting wrath and spittle at the Wanderer , the Wanderer texted me about it , i yelled at the Teyo , the Teyo had a panic attack and told the others i had raped them , the Davriel went into Papa Bear mode , and the entire Magic Set was shredded and separated by the end of the week .
If Cyberpunk teaches us anything it·s that technology dispersion is not uniform . The 1950s had big dreams for a world of fully-automatic space communism , where everyone lived in paradisical superabundance and had all the technology and information they could ever want . Poverty was thought to be eliminable , wars were thought to be extinctable , and systemic oppresion was thought to be resolvable . Things did not go like that .
Punk was a movement that began in the 1970s , following on the coattails of the flower children of 1960s America . These were an entire generation of children who had been raised , all at once , by parents who hated the government and its strict rules and regulations . Then , as the insolvency of centuries-old economic systems demonstrated their willingness to grind the human spirit into dust , more and more disillusioned parents took jobs and went back to work to feed their new children .
These children had been raised in their most impressionable formative years by loving parents who wanted the best and brightest futures for their kids , futures which they had been taught by their post-war parents were their birthright . What the pre-neocortical star children got in their teenage years were stressed-out shells constantly fighting over money . The aesthetic of Punk represents this broken dream , made of taped-up shoes and ripped clothing held together with safety pins and beaten-up leather jackets .
Fast forward half a gosh-darned century and we start seeing Cyberpunk . Cyber is a prefix that colloquially means "high technology" , however the Greek root Kybernetes actually refers to a system which is capable of receiving feedback and modifying its source code to reflect that feedback .
So , Cyberpunk refers to a Punk that has had several generations now , SeHtTi , to receive feedback from its environment , to learn which governmental systems are essential and which are totally fragged with bloatware , and to discover new and cooler adhesives with which to tape up it·s shredded sneakers .
The take-away lesson that Cyberpunk teaches is what the world will look like when income and technology dispersion isn·t unilateral . When a hacker with a $200 burner laptop can draw images of imaginary AR systems in the freeware paint.NET and watch as some artist four thousand clicks away finds them on Insta and translates them into a card game which influences millions . When somebody can use a custom Linux distro on a hacked phone to start the electric car of a senator in the middle of the night so he misses the Big Meeting . When spies use zero-second events coordinated by artifical intelligence to modify the particulars of a movie storyboard so that the Masonic Red turns out Cola Cherry before it hits the art director·s inbox .
What do you do when your high-tech assault rifle with the digital bullet counter tells you you have three bullets left when you have zero? Ka . What do you do when your brand-new homemade Stargate blueprints get intercepted by a well-meaning YouTube algorithm and sent to an enemy designer? Ka .
Now we are at Combined Arms Tactical Warfare .
Try to impede the urge to call it CATWAR . There might be surgically-extracted dog brains in jars hooked up to AI-amplifers one day who will look back at all of this and not laugh .
Combined Arms Tactical Warfare is what happens when every kind of technology is employed in warfare , not just the most cutting-edge . If all you·ve got is a quadcopter and a kitchen knife , you effectively have a homemade rifle . It is most commonly seen when one kind of nation or corporation that has soft trainees decked out in hard gear goes to battle against another nation or corporation with low-tech fighting for their lives . It would have been seen when the Mongols captured Chinese cannons at the advent of gunpowder , when American Aboriginals captured European Fortresses , and when Alien Strandees motion-captured the behaviors of a prophesized Star Arbiter . That last one·s just theoretical , right? Ka . Not that you·d ever know .
Combined Arms Tactical Warfare is the reality of combat in the 21st Century , and , unless all the major corporations in the world all have a sudden change of heart all at once , it·s going to be the reality of combat from now until indefinitely . As the technology cap continues to increase exponentially , so will the total number of combinations of technologies ranging everywhere from the practical applications of piezoelectricity and slime molds to the potentials of surreptitious signalling using social media in the post-ColdWar Spy Era .
Technologies like the ability to influence human behavior by pinging individual neurons using 5G lasers on hacked cellphone panels and the use of brainwave entrainment biofeedback to amplify human clairvoyant potential already exist , however , because the dispersion of these technologies is not unilateral , there is no way you·d ever be able to know what is and isn·t possible until it actually happens to you .
What this will look like in reality becomes increasingly impossible to imagine as linear human evolution contends increasingly with exponential technological development . In the 1920s people felt in their hearts like humans would be flying and skating everywhere , however , because imagination is limited by perception , their renders in the New York Times consisted of thousands of hot-air balloons and water shoes . Fast forward to time bracket actual close , and we have jet planes and roller blades . What this will entail for a world raised on Mecha Anime and Transformers Movies is anyone·s guess .
may Call Of Duty watch over us all .
