So there's a wf shortage on the Pegasus Outpost and managed to hide 1200ish, before it ended, on Cross-9X33 because it's close and has a cache rating of 15. I also staged a couple hundred artifacts, weapons, and electronics from exploring during a rumor. That kind of stash was legen- wait for it- dary! Only to find a rumor 5-6 years later there was a treasure hunting fleet on the planet... Not so legendary at all I don't know who is to blame for this so I will be blaming it on the Steel Song because they are the only ones that occupy corners. Much hate for the Steel Song. Say goodbye to your secrets and say hello to blockades.

cowabductor - make the entire clan feel thine wrath! Those thieving pirates. Any cache that size is safe only so long before a treasure hunting captain is likely to uncover it.

I've noticed that caches just don't seem to be as safe as they used to be. Maybe if there is time during all of the other update activities going on, Cory can revisit caches, and reduce the probability of having treasure hunters. It's definitely annoying seeing EVERYTHING go, especially on a #15 cache!
I've had caches of literally thousands of units of stuff disappear within a game year! ... I left, cache was full. Did a few planet hops and went back and cache was empty.
I agree though - blow up Steel Song ... whether they are at fault or not, they probably had something to do with the thing in an indirect way.

Not sure if this is still the case, but it seems to be like when your ship is looted and they take more than will fit in their hold. Perhaps only lose x items from the cache, where x is hold size of a randomly generated ship.

Agreed. Since we ourselves could not carry everything from a large cache too. It does not make sense unless the raiders were Hulks or Hives. Which means they are Aliens and they do not need our stinking resources since they don't trade.
Anyway, I blame the Steel Song too. Because they are at fault directly EVERY SINGLE TIME... for existing.

Scary thought... What if those Steel Song thugs or worse the Aliens have generated a username and is logging on to discover our secrets?

Then clearly TB are making their monster's in their basement/lab. They are to blame.... it is a scary time indeed....

Currently the code for looting does not take into account the size of the ship to whom you lost -- they are assumed to enlist several nearby friendly ships for removal of the cargo. It is more of a game balance issue than a realism choice in this case.
The percentage chances for caches have not changed in a very long time. There is always a chance that a TH will discover a cache but on the Elite edition 15 should reduce the chance to around 21% per year during a Rumor condition and 0.21% per year under normal conditions.
I just did a double check and I can see that the code and the tests do work. It is, like all other ST RPG things, based on Java dice, so there is a lot of random included.
I will add a review of the balance of cache loss and consider a partial cache loss modification.

Or at least, let us have a chance to go after these Treasure Hunters and get back what was "rightfully" ours, like a special mission or something.
Maybe we can do a surveillance at the looted planet and track those buggers?

Ah ... a ST2 feature request - Named NPC/enemy captains and the ability to track them down if they do something like STEAL from you.

At least provide the ability to boobytrap the cache ...
"Log date 214.21AE. Today we landed on Ghactllli and had to spend the morning scraping up the partially decomposed remains of the treasure hunting party. It would seem that although the electric fence was appropriate, the 21,000 spring-loaded blades, 50 Napalm sprinklers, and the four small dirty nukes. Good thing that the cache had hardened walls."
