So, after a long hiatus(several of you will remember me) I decided to reinstall the game. I was playing my usual - Cadar Military Officer - when I got a contract to hunt and destroy a criminal at a local spice bar. Since I know that's easy money, I took off like The Flash.
Anyway, I hint the guy guy down and lay waste to him. Thinking another job well done, I come to find out that I failed the contract. I was confused and assumed I had simply read the text wrong. So, I decided to try another one. This time a capture contract.
Unfortunately, same thong happens. The completion wants him dead, not caught. A mote of import, I think, is that point of origin doesn't seem to be a factor here. The first contract was from the Cadar military outpost, the second the palace.
Any clues, Cory? I don't have a crash report or anything to give.

Hmmm weird. Will test right now - gotta love being forced to blow up ships for "testing" purposes ...

Tested on latest version - did a search and capture mission and had no problems with it.
As an aside, I had to test it with two captains. The first captain was killed enroute by a narvidian by the name of Sklurkagagagadabada (the 3rd). Not impressed with my captain as he should have fought better, but ummm ... he was one of the captains that I had flying around in an unmodified shuttle to see how long I could last on Demanding. Shuttles vs Aliens ... not so good.

I wonder if there is something about the text that is confusing you, specifically the description of the Contract vs. the Bold button in Victory?

No - but I tend to come up with names as a way to more personalize the destruction I cause. It's unusual for me to lose a captain on Demanding though - even in a shuttle

That's what I get for using my phone instead of a computer. Oh well. Anyway, I suppose that could be possible. I've been trying to duplicate it again since just to make absolutely sure I wasn't bat-**** crazy, but no dice. Thanks Cory, now I'm all sorts of confused! I'm going to have to drink extra hard tonight to straighten that out!

The best way to know if you are meant to kill someone, or just maim and torture capture them is after you defeat the ship in battle, you get shown the victory screen. IF the "Destroy" button is BOLD, Cory really really wants you to blow the enemy ship up. If it is not bold, you need to avoid poking too many holes in its hull.

Yeah that was my question if the original post was -- the difference between remembered text, Contract fail and the BOLD.
Honestly I don't think there is a bug here.
