Been having trouble on crazy.
I start as an explorer for Javat and farm to about 100k using PickyBeggar, then proceed to fight anyone not Javat I encounter in space, but always end up dying.
Any tips on how you unlocked Serpent Tooth?

Just offhand, thats what comes into my mind:
- try not to piss everyone out there, 2 enemy factions are easier than 5 - Piggy Beggar is a good starting ship, but to survive 22 years even without everbody being on your trail is tough, either upgrade durability and engines or think about buying a better ship (engines, armor, hull > crew, guns, torp) - better run than fight, you may fight back the first or second encounter, but there will be a third or a fourth - make sure to invest a good share in piloting and stealth - aquiring a pilot officer (even more efficient with spice on board) also helps - as soon as getting the "wanted criminal" flag, I would avoid hostile faction sectors, there will still be plenty of unpleasant encounters - you can make enemies easily without theoretically to fire a bullet: have trade embargoes work for (or better against) your reputation, a handfull of artifacts
I made the award as a Thulun Captain, desperately keeping Javat and Cadar befriended and benefit from a large "secure" zone.

At what repuation do you earn a wanted flag?
I could easily spend the 20 years dicking around in friendly zones once the rep levels are acheived.
My demanding level bounty hunter is -1000 with all factions except Cadar and De Valtos, will probably work the same way as explorer but with Javat / De Valtos.

I think -11 is when a warrant is put out for your arrest.

You can get -RP with a faction but not have a wanted flag. For example, if you trade against a faction during an embargo, you can easily get hundreds of -RP. It's only when you do an act of aggression (attack a faction ship, blockade a faction, etc) that they will mark you as a wanted criminal. You do need around -10 to -20 RP with a faction at minimum before you can annoy them enough to want to send bounty hunters after you. They do, after all, cost money Useful rule of thumb - when the exchange and/or star dock are blocked to you, you're more than capable of getting a wanted flag.

With version 4.3.19 the new ship Danti Cautela becomes the best starting ship for this award. She runs like a rabbit. Buy her some Titan Components and she runs even longer.

In an upcoming update the unlockable ships get an overhaul, some built in upgrades and other bonuses

I love the idea of some ships getting built in upgrades. I'd also like to see some ships that you encounter have upgrades in them too - after all, if you can't take an upgrade out of a ship once it's put in, then there'd be more ships with at least one upgrade than none at all.

installed upgrades on enemy ships would open a whole big fat can of worms

To much complex coding?

I am afraid of the implications on game balance and I'm not at all certain what the effects would be.
There is code to support it since ships are ships from the dice rolling standpoint, same with officers on enemy ships ... but ... never tested.
So I would say I'm afraid of the complex *rules* more than the complex *code*
