I wouldn't say a crew with Morale of 4 is particularly happy ... <grin>

well I was using it to keep my morale 1 crew from mutiny for several months and realized it made no sense.
Look -- I know you're dying by the droves but look, I'll let you kill some other sailors. There, you feel better now, right?

True - killing others is always a nice distraction from your own pain and suffering

but only if your own pain and suffering is rated moderate to mild. if you are having severe suffering and pain then killing others will not do much to distract.

For my crew that are in severe pain and suffering, I give them a grenade, push them in the general direction of the enemy crew and encourage them to "take one for the team"
