Undo is not part of my game design philosophy. It is also insanely expensive to create in an RDBMS based ORM.
I do like the idea of moving to "archive" instead of delete, or removing delete all together at this point.
I need to think about the implications in story mode of being able to delete plot contacts. I don't think we have a good model for why they wouldn't have delete buttons, so it is something I need to address.

Cory, as a developer how do you feel about letting players make mistakes or do things that could make the story impossible to complete. For example in Morrowind, if you killed an essential NPC, they would be dead and you would be informed by a message that you basically should reload. Moving on to Oblivion and Skyrim you could only knock essential NPCs unconscious.. This prevented you from messing up but felt less immersed in the world. Granted in those games you had multiple saves and could reload.

How about a service available in VIP rooms that allowed players to "recover" deleted files in their PDA's It's in-game and players would need to pay if they wanted it. What do you think Cory?

It would be easier to change the 'delete' button to 'waste paper basket' and then have a button 'waste paper basket' to go with 'taxis' and 'datahounds' and 'connectors'. But all of this only makes sense if there is some reason to delete entries -- it cannot be to save memory, because that's hardly any memory at all.

We added "Delete" back when there were useless contacts.
After the categorization feature was added, the list got easier to manage.
I don't really see a good reason for the "Delete" feature anymore

Thinking more about the phone list -- something I have noticed that I do is to not install any connections I happen to collect before I collect McFly's, so that he is always the first one I load. This is for the convenience of having him and Benni on the first page of the 'all my contacts' list, to save me the bother of pressing the taxi button to find him.
It occurs to me that if, whenever we went to the phone, our phonebook opened on the 'taxis' page rather than the 'all contacts' page, I wouldn't be doing this. And I think it is the more convenient page to have your phone open at. Even a not-so-heavy taxi user such as myself still wants to call a taxi more often than any other single contact, and even when I am phoning up somebody all the time -- a ladder connector whose ladder I am climbing, for instance, I don't really mind the extra button press. But apparantly I do mind it for taxis, since I have gone out of my way to avoid having to press the taxi button.
