I haven't updated in a long while and when I went to the.google play store it doesn't recognize that I already own and have the elite version installed.
I bought this from the droid market almost a year ago.

All your purchases from a year ago are valid -- don't worry! You just have to find the account you used.
What one has to do is log into Google Play with the Google Account used for the purchase.
Thankfully, I have absolutely no control at all over any of that. The only thing I can do is issue refunds.
