A new release of Star Traders RPG has been put up on the Android Market and announced on the blog: tresebrothers.blogspot.com/2011/01/star-traders-rpg-v307.htmlPlease, try it out. It fixes a lot of reported issues from this very forum. I was also able to make a few performance breakthroughs. I hope it helps everyone fly faster =) ****************************************** UPDATE! Version 3.0.7 contained an issue that would cause the application's menu icon to vanish or report "application is no longer installed." If you updated to v3.0.7, please update to v3.0.8 (available now) to restore your icon. [[ Also: If the first version you installed was v3.0.7, you need to reboot the phone (SORRY!) or launch from Android Market after installing v3.0.8 until your phone reloads the menu (sometimes days between reloads, I guess.) ]]

I'd love to hear from anyone who does the upgrade ... one person just wrote me that they can't get it to install

you should be able to launch it from Android Market page -- the name of the startup menu changed and for some reason Android doesn't re-read that very often.
to find it in the menu -- looks like the phone will require a reboot if you download 3.0.7
do not uninstall or you will loose your captain.
---
Deeply disappointed tonight in Android OS and in myself.

After 3.0.7 mess -- to fix the menu use a Task Killer to kill all your system tasks or reboot.
==========
I am uploading a fix, which will cause you to AGAIN loose it from the menu (but allow everyone else to continue.)
I am really sorry.
This will NEVER happen again, trust me. So super-duper sorry to everyone impacted.
I'll be sooo careful in the future it will probably slow down activity changes!

do not uninstall or you will loose your captain. Just a thought on this... How about saving the captain data to the SD card and either having an option to save within the game or a save on exit from the menu. For me this'd be fantastic as I have a rooted phone and I do change my OS fairly regularly and I have, in the past, forgotten to take a backup so lost all my saved games! But it's a nice to have, not a critical thing

The game should backup like a normal application. Everything is stored inside of the file 'data'

No issues installing either update and no issues with it not showing up in the market.
Gandalf, I'm not sure what you use to backup your apps, but if you have Titanium Backup, I highly recommend setting up backup schedules. I'm constantly flashing roms/kernels/themes, and nothing would make me sadder than to lose saved game data, not only for ST, but any game.
The schedule I use is the forced redo of your backups, and I have it set for a time where I'll normally be asleep. I've been using the scheduler for months, and it's the best thing I've ever set up. Just my 2 cents!

I use mybackup pro, and have got weekly backups running, but I can do a lot of gameplay in that week! Still, it's a nice to have, not a critical thing really. I'm a bit old skool, and like removing the SD card and manually backing up the files on there to a PC every so often

I probably won't do anything that adds permissions. I'm scared to change the menu activity now, much less force permission updates!
Alas =)

With Titanium, I use their Dropbox capability, so it uploads my backups to Dropbox, and I can access that from anywhere. Rather than doing weekly backups, what about doing them every night while you're asleep? That's how I've had mine setup and I don't even notice it. Not to mention, it only takes a couple of minutes.

Shame I already uninstalled it before seeing this thread. I can live with losing my cap'n though. As I said in my other thread, I can't get it to launch at all. And with 3.08, I can't even launch it from the Market, and I've tried restarting. I'm running Elite btw.

I sometimes have issues installing/updating an app but in those cases I just had to try installing/updating again. In some cases the app would appear as if it was not installed even though it was. Installing it again from the market always solved it in those cases.

+1 on scheduled, NIGHTLY backups with Titanium with automatic Dropbox sync! Has kept my head from exploding a few times. And has just made my life easier (or kept me from getting sad) MANY times.
