Once my captain is past lv20, I'm alwayes dying by ram. I had a ship with 12 hull 11 armor and 30 engines and sails. Somebody rammed me, I tried to escape, was unsuccessful and was rammed again, tried to escape, rammed agan and I died. I know there's a Ram Shiled Generator upgrade whic protects the ship from ram but that's in the combat section ad I need that section for weapon's cabinet/Leviathan Armor. Simmilar to how you have Cargo Pod upgrades in more than 1 upgrade catagoy, could you make another ram defense upgrade and put it in arrainment or even propultion?

Ah.....choices, choices. I always hate them, like choosing between the water-fuel tank or the advanced bridge upgrade.
I think this thread would probably be better placed in the Wish Lists section, too.

Try a ship with higher hull or armour? Ram works best against ships with lower hull, so if yours is higher than theirs, there's a good chance they'll destroy their own ship while you get away with minor damage.

I got a ship with 32 hull and 16 armor with the impact shield generator upgrade and I was rammed twice and my hull was reduced to 0. There are many upgrades for boarding in 2 catagories (mercanaries and battleship architecture in one and the combat upgrade is almost exlcusively of different boarding upgrades) plus you could carry weapons to further increase your barding strength and crew upgrades alow increase boarding. AND there are THREE offiers that give boarding bonuses. Yet there is only ONE upgrade in ONE catagory that specializes in protection against ram. No hold bonuses to protect against ram, no officers that includes ram resistance as one of their benifits... Sure you could get armor upgrades, but 11 armor could only do so much. I recentl got the harbinger ship with dreadknought archteitecture, impact shield generator and hyperion superstructure and I'm currently flying with a ship with 50 hull, 31 armor, an impactsield generator, over 200 crew, over 50 sails, almost 50 engines, 81 weapons, and 17/155 of my hold is spice (I have a pilot officer). If I get rammed to death while flying this ship, it'll be clear a new ram upgrade is in order.

We never try to base a rules change on a single player or one particular ship or judgement -- so even if the Harbinger's Hull collapses into Void Space it doesn't make it clear at all.
I always remember that we're trying to keep 100,000 people happy with the balance so it's critical to be cautious and not jump to conclusions based on any one particular event.
The most signifigant statistic for Ram is Armor -- and there are several Armor upgrades already in place.

I absolutly agree you should not jump to conclutions based on the oppinion of one person. I'm just giving my oppinion and if someone else says something simmilar in a later post you can keep what I said in mind.

Pilot officer will help vs ram in that he should make it harder for the other ship to hit. However if they do manage to ram you, I don't think he'll make any difference to the damage inflicted. I tend to go with a small, fast ship and pilot officer+spice (normally the spear cutter if I can find one), or something with lots of torps and keep at long range.

What's that? Oh that. Dreadnought Architecture provides greater resistance vs. Ram. But neither specalizes in ram resistance. I don't know if its the armor it provides that gives you ram resistance, or if those upgrades have a resistance to ram bonus in addition to the armor it gives you.

Bonus + Armor Bonus.
The greater the ratio of Armor to Hull the better. If you can push Armor above Hull you'll have a HUGE advantage in Ram damage and resistance. On top of that, Reinforced Hull gives you an Ram damage bonus (for you when you click Ram and against any attacker who rams you.)

It says in the help section that dreadknought architecture also provides a resistance vs. Ram and board. So the dreadknought upgrade also provides an armor bonus + resistance vs. Ram bonus correct? Wouldn't that mean dreadnought architecture provides greater protection vs ram because it has 6 armor in addition to a ram protect bonus as opposed to reinfocred hull which just has 1 armor and a ram potection bonus?
Also, it says on the help all thse aditional bonuses for certan upgrades that aren't mentioned under the upgrades description. Like the attack shuttle bays providing a major bonus fr outnumbering opponents, battle prow increasing ram attack and boarding action, not to mention things that have been mentioned in this forum such as omni-stealth array providing a patrol bonus to finding "good ships" (merchants and smugglers). Could you add those in? Or did you take those bonuses out and that's why they're not under the upgrade desccription in the game?

We'll be posting an updated help file hopefully this weekend ... assuming no extreme disasters. That will list lots of bonuses for upgrades and we'll start working forward from there.
