I had an assignation mission for Bravestar. Target was Yakuza. It was a $1200 or so. I did not get payed. Even worse, when I got rid of my Yakuza earned Heat, I lost nearly another grand!!
I started with 9.2k and ended up with 7.8k or close to this.
I do usually double check my mission before starting and got no bad msg about doing a wrong mission.
I will keep at this and see if it repeats.
Also have been trying to climb Bravestar ladder. I seem to be stuck at 20 points. I have succeed at 3 triple missions at least. Perhaps its my gameplay. I tend to sleep off newly gained heat after completing a triad of missions.
Heat gain per mission seems to be really high. If I don't reduce, within a few turns it would be out of hand. Yet if I reduce heat, I do not gain Rep, at least with Bravestar. I often need to sleep 3 or 4 times to lower heat in that zone (usually Yakuza, but not always) to 0.
I am playing normal. Seems pretty stiff.

You can get paid less, I think down to nothing if you do the job very late, after the delivery date but before it expires. I've never seen myself lose money on one, though, I will look for this too.
How big is your computer? To do the BS ladder you really need a 3 job or larger one.
Stop killing your opponents and use a taser glove. You will get less heat.
Stop looting corpses. Use the 'stealth exit' not 'normal exit' after combat. You will get less heat.
Stop taking jobs all over town. You want a few jobs close together. Texas Powers gives bad jobs this way. Try a different Connector. All Texas cares about is that your rep with BS climbs. He doesn't care which Connector you do the jobs for.
Stay out of taxis. They waste too much time.
Try to take jobs outside of BS territory so that when you get encounters it won't damage your BS rep.
They way to improve your rep produced heat with the Yakuza is not by spending all your time sleeping. Do a few jobs for them instead. The Gambling Den gives very easy ones that still reduce your (bad rep) heat a lot.
Good luck

Also is it possible that you got paid and did not notice? Assasination jobs pay out the moment you kill or stun the target -- says 'job successful, the target is down' not at the end of the fight when you either make a tactical escape or eliminate every opponent.

Actually I did not get payed. Started with 9.2k and ended with same.
I did finish on time.
What I did notice is that these jobs wear done thru the backroom. Tried it a few times since, and I get the same results. However, when I get jobs thru a connector, my heat increases as it should. Sorry, meant Rep, not heat, and too hard to correct w phone.
I do have a 3 job computer.
And thanks for the yips. Will give them a try.
I was using the back room for jobs because they payed better.

can you tell me which VIP room, and which contact you got the assasination job that did not pay? I just went to a Blue Ox VIP room, and took an assasination job from Ama Lee. It paid. So whatever is up it is not a problem with all Connectors who want assasinations done and whom you meet in Backrooms.

I went to the Hydra Club and took a job from Agent Pherrell to Assasinate a fugitive in the Dilapidated Gym in Copley Square (Yakuza). The offer was for 1287Y. I did the mission and got paid.

Also if you are trying to raise your BS rep, stay out of backrooms. It sometimes takes forever for the people with jobs to show up, and you waste time boozing it up when you should be working. Then you get exhausted from all that vudka and need to rest, and meanwhile your rep is rotting.
If you want good paying assasination jobs for BS, try the Javat Spice Hall in River Park. Provided KH likes you enough to let you use their thopters, which take no time to use, by the way, the missions are all reasonably close together, too.

I will check later today
Actually, the no pay has not repeated itself, but the overall loss of money when factoring in sleep to remove gained heat on three missions, loss of health due to up to three gas, terrorist attacks in one zone crossing has repeated when dealing with BS. It this does not cause an overall loss when using a connector, just a back room.
Thanks, still trying your other suggestions.

If roof leaks are a significant cash expense for you, you need to buy hardened armour and cybernetic lenswear. Try Saytek's in Dorchester for the Range Finder sort of eye protection.

If hotel stays are draining that much, save up for a safehouse or few. If possible one in almost every zone. Would be about 30K (some are cheap at ~$1k, some are around 5k

And since it it BS rep you are working on, Independent Properties in Dorchester has two bargain 1K safehouses conveniently located in River Park near the Javat Spice Hall.
But it may be that your main problem is that your mix of BS jobs is too violence heavy. Package and Escort Missions deliver much less heat than capture and assasinate ones.

may I add one thing: if the connector gives you jaust violent jobs: accept them and end them just one click later. this will give you a VERY sligth decrease in rep, but he will give out another job directly after. otherwise he will keep offering you that one job ...
