Hey everyone, I am Leon im 26 nd have been playing for about 2 weeks now an I absolutely love it!! Good job Cory I love it x) I've been practicing on hard even though I havnt unlocked the escape pod yet..
I like to play by keeping everyone sweet, all 6 factions it's hard to start out but once you buy your first decent ship (having been promoted by everyone and trading for enough credits) it gets much easier.
I've found that saving illegal goods until a trade alliance or two pop off can be handy and destroying pirates during a solar war is a good way to +rep without -rep in other factions..are there any more ways please?. Thankyou x)

The best way to get rep with factions is by losing rep with other factions. Blockading eemy faction during a solar war and destroying their ships, or spying on enemy factions (surveilence) duing a spy battle and selling the records produced to the good faction wins a ot of rep. Also, the hgher your rep, the more rank you can get Alwayes promote yourself to the most your rep alows you to, as higher rank means you will get even more rep when participating in conflicts. Also get a death warrent for certan contracts and increased contract pay and a trade permit to sell and buyillegal goods and so you can surrender to their pirates without your hold being looted.
NOTE: With rank and death warrent, you also get xp spying on enemy factions during spy wars or blockading enemy factions and destroying their ships during solar wars. Hgher rank also means beter prices (the buy and sell prices will be closer together).

As I said, I like to keep everyone happy..the best way I've found so far is to raid pirates during solar wars and get rep there then take the illegal items to a trade alliance I like to save the weapons too for.my military officer but sell them when I get a lot..it gets repetitive though..loot pirates go home loot pirates..do some.missions..I don't want negative rep with any faction..atleast not until I get a much better ship..

Well you get rep selling contraband and records, and like you said attacking pirates during solar wars. I think your best bet is do contracts for them and then make occasional pardons with those you wronged to pevent negetive xp to the point of a wanted criminal. If your a mechant/smuggler/explorer/startrader, just makemoney of of selling artifacs and elctronics from shortages and surpluses, or exploring planets and selling the treasures found. You'll eventually get good rep. Id geta political oficer though as shell warn you about trade embargoes (they KILL your reputation)

Status >> Cargo >> Conflict xP not a fan of the political officer. I like Pilot Military and that cyborg one..the rogue trader. If a spy comes.along while.I assemble.my team though I'll pick her up cos she makes contracts worth much more..

I've been looking at the more rougish roles..I do alot of work against the independents and I don't need to loose morale.over it..im a big fan of the pirates beginning stats so I stick with that even though I intend to bounty hunt and trade when im trained an promoted..but I like the idea of getting.g the smuggler contracts.unlocked..

So to recap, sell records and illegal goods to gain rep, take out pirates during the solar war, run contracts against th independents..don't be shy with the pardons x)

Except dont sell records with a faction involved in a spy war as you'll lose rep with the other faction. Also, ignore blockade contracts and spy contracts until your tactics, stealth, intimidate, pilot, and warrior are at least 20. This is because if your skills arent high enough, you'll need to blockade/spy on the sector many times, casuing a huge rep loss. After your skills are high enough though, you will only need to blokade or surveil the sector a few times to complete contract, which means no rep loss that can't be recovered with a small pardon. Also, get the smugglers hold. With the smugglers hold upgrade, you can surrender to military and bounties with contracts on board and they will not seize it. Otherwize, youll have to ignore them, which will cause a rep loss if it says in the description that they have "legal authority". Lastly, dont attack pirates if thier faction is involved in an allience. Even if pirates attack you first, you'll still lose rep if you defeate them and thier faction is in an alliance

blockade during solar war with military rank, surveillance during spy war with death warrant. Both these actions lead to a net increase in reputation. (ie you might lose 1 rep with 1 faction, but you'll gain 2 with the other).
Never sell records to anyone in a spy war or trade during an embargo as these will lead to an overall loss in reputation.
Selling restricted goods to faction A while they are in a trade alliance with faction B gives a greater increase in rep with B than A (not sure why that is, but there you go).
In my experience it is almost impossible to get +ve rep with all 6 factions using contracts alone. The best I have managed as a long-term strategy (contracts only, that is), is to take contracts from all three of either the houses or the syndicates, and to buy pardons with the others.

Maybe if your a merchant, smuggler, or exlorer and your only making rep with trading its possble. But again, have political officer on board. She can warn of trade embargoes so you don't lose 100 rep or more.

Explorer is pretty easy to get all 6 factions positive rep if you are lucky with Trade Alliances and are careful of Embargoes.
Once you have money, you can go to a planet of a faction you have neutral or slightly negative rep with (and after checking for no Embargoes or Spy Wars) and buy and then sell back all the records in the Exchange. These goods gives you +rep without requiring a Trade Permit, then making you enough of a friend to buy the permit. You may need to try several planets as few have many Records in stock.

Also, I've noticed that When a faction wants to search you in there own space and say, if you have records or something you can go to battlestations and before you open fire retreat and escape it doesn't affect your rep AND you get to keep your records..it's just important not to ignore them..

Ignore = Battle Stations - Retreat. If you ingore military in their own space and you don't have permit/rank, you most certainly will lose rep. Even though technicly you don't need a permit to buy or sell records, records are important to factions, and you being in their space gives them right to seize recrds frm ships for their own gain. However, if you surrender, and the nly thing that is taken is records (not artifacts electronics weapons and/or contracts also) you shouldn't lose rep. If your losing rep after surendering and having only your records confiscated, I will ask cory to make a change
