The Military Officer Rumors: * The Mercenaries are congregating rumor * Possibly found with military surplus rumors (I can't remember) Found * In the Palace Bonuses: *Bonus to intimidation *Bonuses with all ship to ship combat, especially boarding -Boarding Transition -Soaks moral hits (<--- What does this mean?) -Increases upgrade efficiency (IE Upgrades that give boarding bonus also get a boost) * Provides a 'Blockade Contract' pay bonus. * Provides a bonus to the actual blockade action. * Tells you when the captain's health is low at urban zones. * Tells you when you've been deceived by a bounty contract. Cargo to improve bonus: Weapons (Stack these babies in, you really want weapons when alien hunting. There is no set limit to the Weapons bonus. Cory provided 'weapons in hold' suggestion is (Crew - Engines) x 2) Read more: startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=2750&page=1#ixzz291RyxIncWhat does it mean to SOAK UP MORAL HITS? It is possible for your crew or enem crew to loose morale while boarding/fightin, causing them to become less effective. The MO prevents YOUR crew from losing morale while fighting, which is good.
The Templar also recently got a "defense vs. Board damage" bonus. For the most recent update though, it said that the MO and Templar's boarding defense was increased, so maybe both help with defense vs. Board damage. Or maybe they both do diferent bonuses in terms of boarding defense. Hopefully Cory could help clarify this. Then again, with ST its really impossible to know EVERYTHING.
MO only helps with boarding, and helps some with ramming, but that's it. He doesn't do gun or torp.

Darn, then its not all ship to ship combat. I'll alter it pronto.

no. the weapons bonus only applies to his boarding bonus. But its a big bonus. With 50 weapons and an MO, I do over 200 damage for transitions and maybe 100 at zero range.

I have a question. Story wise, what are Hulks? Aliens are just that, alien races. I have a basic idea of Narvidariens from rumurs and helped in no small part by Rabid's story. But I'm have no idea where Hulks fit into it.

That's the only part that's true from rumors and Cory saying things here and there. Anyways: Modified Original post, added M.Officer and Templar bonuses. Fixed M.Officer combat information. rabid

Fixed minor spelling errors.
Has the defense Versus boarding bonus of the M.O. been explained yet? IE is it versus attempt at boarding, damage after being boarded, or versus both or different?

Okay, so I'm one of the goobers who keeps getting executed by aliens as the maicause of death. Playing mostly on impossible and insane (and loving it, in general), but still having trouble. I'd like to get critique so as to decrease the whole execution by aliens things... Ship- when I get the chance, I always upgrade to fast/quick. I up pilot and usual skills, more often pilot/stealth, for the fuel efficiency early game and late, and for combat range movement. Despite this, I can pretty much never get away from most aliens, even with a pilot and spice. When boarding is inevitable, I go for it and always lose rapidly, even when flying an omega or inquisition cruiser with lots of crew and with solid combat and intimidate. Yesterday, having tried to manage with various posts of techniques, I had bodyguard, military officer, Templar on board, weapons in the hold, inquisition cruiser with extra crew upgrades. Level 30 on impossible. Pilot 30, stealth 30, combat 23, intimidate 20' tactics 23 or so. Ran into lvl66 Narvidian Hunter. Couldn't hit it with torps or guns, it closed, I tried to board, it counrboarded. I surrendered, crew and engines taking damage. I surrendered, having an escape shuttle, and was still killed. Now, I'm sure I'm doing things wrong, but.... There is clearly no one recipe for success, while there are a gazillion recipes for death. Ram I've seen can be useful to get distance, and I've tried that with heavily reinforced ships, and still lost big time. If you master the trading and faction missions of the game, how can you survive the aliens? In point of fact, I don't mind running or surrendering, even losing a great ship, if there's a chance at survival. But I met that Narvidian Hunter at green space off Baza, and have similarly been ambushed by them around the whole core within - radius of 6 from 1,1. What are the steps of build of the captains and ships to be able to survive or excel against the aliens? What skills don't you build? Best single game I put in was level 48 on iMpossible.... And killed by Aliens. Can make it routinely to the 20s and 30s, but cannot survive the alien menace. Help?

The pre-eminent Alien killer, as far as I can tell, right now is Starfixer. He believes in boarding and usually has an interesting strategy on how to stat his captains. PM him. He can help you.
One thing I have noticed is: If you're a Pilot/Stealth spec you are -absolutely- vulnerable to the ALIEN in the later stages of the game. I know because -I- do Pilot/Stealth specs. The only way I survive the ALIEN in the later game is to RUN. I am not an Alien hunter. I kill humans. Kinda gave up on the ALIEN idea because they pop too randomly and usually end up dead anyways. So I specialize in 'getting the hell out of dodge.
REMEMBER: STEALTH counts TWICE as much in calculating enemy captain LvLs as any other of the skills you have. So having 30 pilot and 30 stealth is a no no.
REMEMBER: If you have an escape shuttle you MUST use it BEFORE you get to 2 health or you're dead anyways.

Stealth has a place in your captain's skills ... to a point. After that, only periodically top up Stealth, but focus on other attributes depending on your game play, eg: * Missing your targets lots? - try Tactics * Like boarding? - try Warrior and have weapons in the hold (2x weapons per crew is optimal)
