I know I'm very late to this party, but I've been finding that even past 1000AE it's still possible to find Aliens by patrolling dead planets (this is on Hard difficulty). Of course, the frequency is much lower, but it's still not zero. Sometimes I have to empty 15-20 full tanks of WF (108 units each tank, about 2.6 units per patrolling op (I know, my ship stats suck)) before an Alien turns up, but that's still more frequent than travelling in normal space where they almost don't show up at all (except one incident where two of them suddenly decided to drop in, one after the other, just when I was heading towards Kashtisha to refuel... they seem to know when you're low on supplies and are not in the best condition for fighting them! ). And I don't even have a vet officer or any artifacts/electronics in my hold, just WF and weapons. And speaking of weapons, the latest encounter was perhaps one of the scariest, because I only have 40 weapons for 140 crew (considered very low according to suggestions here), and a Sidtax Alien showed up with Lvl:164 and 500 crew. My crew was down to 41 and their crew still at 292 after 25 turns, but fortunately my captain, having Warrior skill at 111 , managed to kill the enemy Captain right then, before they completely decimated my crew. I really should carry more weapons, but then I'd have to refuel a lot more often; 108 WF is already too little, and that's with the water-tank upgrade. Or perhaps I really should just start another captain and take maximum advantage of higher Alien frequency before the clock goes too late.

redartrats -- The rate of encountering Xeno (frequency of aliens) will increases as the game goes along, not decrease. Hopefully that helps explain things!

Oh? So why is it that people allude to things like patrolling dead planets being essentially useless past a certain date? Or does the frequency decrease for patrolling, but increase for general random encounters?

Strange, I'm apparently seeing reduced frequency of Alien encounters while patrolling dead planets. Perhaps this is due to levelling up and not increasing pilot/stealth in proportion?

I wonder, how much of a chance do you have to encounter each alien AI?
