Okay started posting "Grappling Hooks & Roses" a couple days ago.
As inspiration strikes I'll continue adding to it. Hopefully will get something posted daily but no guarantees on that.
This thread is for anyone, besides myself, who gives a damn about my story to make comments, suggestions and critics.
I'll try to answer questions people may have and take suggestions under advisement.
Hope someone out there will find GH&R interesting.

Character list Kier-Bri Stormraven Main character trained as a Spy by House Thulan, after traumatic events of past few weeks finds herself replacing her father as a "Free Trader" spaceship captain and continue his work.
Uncle Paul Now deceased he was the First Mate of the ship Fidei Defensor under both Keir-Bri and her father Keirnan. Died manning the bridge during the books opening scene. More about both him and Keir-Bri's father who died offstage as it were, prior to the stories start, may be revealed in the future.
Chief Not given a regular name yet, this is a reference to his rank of Chief Machinest Mate. He was the senior enlisted man who was part of Keir-Bri's boarding party. His speech pattern is sort of a very rapid clipped form of the basic language. I envision it as being similar to the Jamaican Pattois for those familiar with that, where the language is much condensed from its base roots. Sort of a Spacehands verbal shorthand

I refrained from posting in the story thread so as not to disrupt the flow, and was hoping you'd post this thread. So far I like the story, a young girl turned into a wrathful killer by her father's death. I'm waiting now for more history to see if she's been as cold as ice all her life, or if her father's death locked her into this remorseless path of vengeance.
Good job! _______________________________

Posting part 2 of Chapter 2 in a minute. Odd how a story can take on a bit of its own life and go places not expected by the author. Not to be a tease, but what's going to follow is not what I had in mind at first for Chapter 2 but instead for some later point in the story.

I hear you. I don't know where the story is going to take me, one moment at a time. Now I do, since I made an outline of what I GENERALLY want to do. Yet, there is still a lot of leeway in between, how things get done, how events follow. For example, I never thought I'd have so much interaction with Graline (the current antagonist) for Rabid Rabbit, then suddenly ... there she was. It's really ... REALLY odd. Anyways, I'm reading your work so keep at it. rabid

The characters and the story take on a life of their own. I've actually read quotes from book authors who have said the same thing.

Thanks for the picture rabid. Would work fairly well for the young Captain Sebastian VanGuilder in my current chapter except the guy in the pic has way to much hair for a SpaceMarine.lol Does give a nice feel for the atmosphere and personality of the character though. Very brash and sure of themselves and their superiority to everyone else.

That's the Emperor of Man. He gets to wear his hair any darn way he pleases and then some hahaha! Obviously there is a lot more information about the ST universe available out there that I've not seen. Could you please direct me to it? I sent Cory an email asking about a ST writers guide/universe cannon but haven't received a reply yet. Understandable since he's been busy with work and updating the games.

Oh. I didn't mean to confuse you. The pic I got off Google. I edited it and added the Thulun stuff. That's the Emperor of Man from the Warhammer 40k universe. All the pictures I've added in both the Rabid Rabbit Odd Adventures and in general are just pics I've edited or found on the web.
As far as I know there is absolutely NO cannon written anywhere except on this forum. In essence, you and I are writing canon. Assuming Cory ever decides to approve anything we do. In my story, I'm going a little over the top. I don't really expect anything to be considered canon, except maybe the general concepts of the Clans. IE I call the Thulun space infantry: Lions. Add usual slang terms like "vipers" for the Rychart, and so forth. I try to add different styles of combat depending on who's fighting: Cadar one gun one sword/edge weapon; tricky. Thulun, Plasma carbines/shield sword/shield.
And if people are wondering why Rabid Rabbit and Crush Rabbit have a dual gun style (one in each hand) and seem to dance, well that's a combat style too. I haven't decided who to apply it to, some bounty hunter tribe or another, Steel Song, Templar Scouts, Legendary 7th Clan, or something else altogether.
See there is a lot of information that you get right off the game "rumors" that allows for a lot of leeway in what you write.

@rabid Guilty as charged your honor! ;D You'll probably get that my writing is heavily influenced by 40K then, the current story arch is based off a certain "flavor text" rumor that I've seen popping up persistently in the spice halls. Also likely to see the influence of some of my favorite authors such as David Drake, David Weber and Steve Perry in my feeble efforts along with a few non sci-fi/fantasy authors. While I can only dream of approaching the level of such illuminaries hopefully I won't ever be accused of outright plagiarism in my writing.

Here is some clarification regarding Colonel Sebastian VanGuilder.
His official rank with the Thulun SpaceMarine Corps during the events he describes in Chapter 3 is Captain. The name for Naval ranks is different than the Marines, additionally regardless of actual rank the commander of a ship is always referred to as Captain regardless of actual rank. So in an effort to prevent confusion a SpaceMarine Captain will be referred to as Commander. For those interested I've based the ranks roughly off those in the United States military services. A quick check of Wikipedia or other online sources should provide a detailed listing of the various ranks.
The 3rd Recondo that both Colonel VanGuilder and Captain Hollister served with (different time periods for their service) is a Special Operations unit. It's sort of a cross between the US Marines Force Recon and US Navy SEALs. Organized as Battalion size units of which House Thulun has several they are almost never deployed as a Battalion size unit and only rarely at Company size. Instead they are most commonly deployed in Platoon or smaller elements. The "short platoon" Captain VanGuilder commands in Chapter 3 has two 8 man short squads and a command element made up of the unit commander, Communications Specialist, Medic, and unit Armorer. In contrast the Cadar Syndicate troops are organized in 12 man infantry squads that typically operate as two 6 man fire teams instead of the 4 man fire teams in each of the Thulun SpaceMarine squads.
