Well, here's the problem: I started as a bounty hunter for Cadar, on crazy. I've managed to get to level 6 without pissing anyone off too much, and I'm still flying the picky beggar. A couple of unlucky encounters mean I'm still low on cash, but I've managed to avoid getting below -4 rep with any faction, but at least I've picked up a mechanic. But I don't see how I can keep this up now. It seems all 6 factions have conspired to screw up my game. because of the embargoes in place: Steel Song vs De Valtos, Javat vs Rychart, and Cadar vs Thulun, and there's another one but at this point it's redundant. Never had this happen before, so far I've just been switching which factions I'm working for to get around embargoes, but that doesn't seem like it'll work at this point. Any advice or suggestions Also, does this sort of thing happen often on crazy?

To answer you in reverse order. Yes, it is not uncommon for the various factions to all go embargo crazy on each other. Pick one faction, most likely whoever your home faction has the beef with, and let them get all unhappy with you. Also do as much trading and work as possible with the independents during such periods.
Generally speaking, such periods of heavy embargos won't last long. Either they'll become trade wars or full fledged solar wars or the factions will resolve their differences and may even become trade allies.

Ever since the new economic system several releases ago, indipendents have had good economies. Water fuel is a little hih, but its not too bad. The buy and sel price are closely raltes, so indy world that hav high buy prices now have high sell prices also. Trade with indy worlds until the embargo goes away. Don't break embargoes, you'll lose more rep than you can get back (unles you conflict participate in which you'll lose rep with one t gain rep with another)
Trade with indy worlds if you can't trde wth faction worlds. Click on a cargo hold pictre (lik the water fuel pictre to see which indy words that you visited sell it for the cheapest. However, at lv6 yu haven gne to all the indy worlds yet so it may not list some of the indy worlds that would benefit you the most. So start exploring on differetnt indy worlds till you find one that sells gods cheap.

The ST game design doesn't limit the cascading effects of embargo, shortage and trade wars. The games economic system is very flexible and allows for full positive and negative rumor and conflict cascades. The game does not vary this based on difficulty level, however the penalties and bonuses are appropriately scaled. Great post .... Hang in there, it can't go on like this forever Just like they say in the Spice Hall!

Thanks for the advice, it's been a while since I last played, and back then the independents were lousy for trading.
I didn't know I could call up a list of what's cheapest from where I've been, major thanks for that info starfixer.
I asked for crazy, and the game gave me crazy. Be careful what you wish for indeed!

Yeah, the game can go smoothly for a while and then suddenly you find out that you can't trade with any faction for AGES. it's tough, but that's what life is like in the quadrant!
Then it gets crazy when all your factions try and become allies with your enemy factions and you can't shoot anyone. Argh!
