Like any software system, data slows down ST RPG.
For maximum performance, delete your old characters under
"Main Menu" > "Roster" > "View" > "Delete"
Deleting them does perma-destroy the files. You can't play them, or read the logs.
But the game is faster with less characters. I test it up to 1000 characters but it is starting to slow down a lot at that point.

So I usually keep it to like 5-10 and delete anything dead (unless it was a special character like my merchant Koran). So you think we should be pretty fine with say up to 20-30 chars? I know I'm using Evo4g with the snapdragon proc, so I'm pretty safe as far as slowdowns.

What with awards? Will we lose an award if we delete a captain who earn it?

Awards stay even after the Captain that earned them has died or been deleted.

Speaking of awards, any chance you could have a button on the Awards screen that shows which ones you don't have?
Either that, or mark the ones you do have on the Possible screen.
Yeah, I'm an unlock addict. I blame Cory for making such cool awards. How many Captains must you kill in your mad quest for the Serpent's Tooth? I hope you're happy with yourself.
