What helps for ramming enemy ships (not when enemies are ramming you)? I know pilot skill, engines, ship agility, armor and hull are what's mainly important, so I have a slayarz cruiser (hull 29 armor 22 engines 62) with titan components, advanced bridge, hyperion superstructure and battle prow, with a pilot officer, military officer and veteran officer and carry spice. And my pilot skill is almost 2.5x of my level. I want my ram attack to be strong enough that I can defeate aliens with ram. Advice?
Also, what's better for ramming, ancient reactors, dreadnoght architecture or battle prow? And does any other upgrades like impact shield help with your ram attack?

Impact Shield Generator is really the most critical one for players who are using Ram frequently, especially against larger or stronger ships.

I thoght impact was only when rammed, not when ramming. I'll get it for my next ship. Thanks

I didn't know impact shield generator helped that much. Hmm imagine a ship made just to ram. Just ... piloting, tactics, armor and hull.
Guess it might be called "The Hammer"
As overused as that name is.

Does Pilot play the greatest role in ram attack or there other skills that play an equal/greator role?

Roughly in order of importance, depends on many factors ======================================== Morale Pilot Agility [of Ship] Strength Warrior Engines Prow Battle Prow Reactors Military Officer

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. I've been riding with a slayarz and getting hull breaches, so I thought it would be better to get a obliterator because it has more hull and armor. Now I know engines and agility are both more important than hull and armor, so I'll get another slayarz. I've been investing all my XP in pilot, but absolutely nothing in warrior and strength. That's probably why I keep getting hull breaches after ramming enemies once. I'll invest a little less in Pilot so I can put some points into warrior/strength and hope it makes a difference.

Well all depends on what you're trying to do. Win every Ram roll or do a lot of damage when you do? Want do to more damage for your Ram attack? High Hull. Want to take less damage for your own Ram attack? High Armor. Want to win more rolls? High Agility. Want to avoid Captain HP damage? High Strength. Want to win more Ram when the enemy does Board? High Warrior. There are probably 20 more similar questions you could ask yourself, but the answers are consistent across all the skill sets so just look at Gun, Torp, Ram, Close or Retreat for clues because they're consistent. You might not have guess Warrior and Strength were involved but I don't think *guessing* is the right way to figure out Star Traders RPG

My problem wasn't doing damage nor being sucesful. I'm alwayes succesful when I hit ram, never get hit with enemy guns or enemy ram and alwayes do a lot of damage. It was preventing damage from my own ram attacks. Id hull breach the enemy, but get a hull breach of my own in the proccess. The last enemy was a merchant that I couldn't hit with my guns because he kept trying to retreat. So I rammed. He had less than a third of my hull and armor. And I ended up destroying both of our ships.
So then engines and agility are great for dodging enemy guns and ram, preventing enemies from retreating and for rolls, but hull/armor is best for preventing damage and doing damage? And Warrior is best (not Pilot) for preventing the enemy from boarding when attempting to ram?

Well that didn't work. I was at lv146, had a pilot of 388 with an obliterator cruiser (hull 40 armor 26 engines 44 sails 44 crew 115 cargo 120 guns 40 torps 15 MEDIUM MEDIUM) with a battle prow, advanced bridge, titan components and hyperion suprstructure, a pilot officer, military officer and veteran officer with 13 spice going against a level 288 enemy. I countinuously attempted to ram and wasn't succesfull once. The weird tbing was that sometimes id be able to hit the ship with my guns but never ram, when normally its the exact opposite. enemy kept trying to board and gun. I guess you can't be good at ramming unless you have a quick ship.

Just rammed a pirate with 7 hull and 0 armor left while I had all 62 of my engines, 31 of my armor and 29 of my hull. I got a hull breach in one ram. EDIT: its saying we both took 0 damage when in reality we took so much damage both of our engines were reduced to zero. And the enemy's ship size and level was so low that it makes no sense that I would've taken so much damage. I sent you a log. I hope you find something

You say continually Ram. That assures failure, the AI AMD penalties will wreck that.
Stick with the strategy for ST Combat, don't jam the same button mindlessly.
Ram will work best following an range transition.
Close > Ram > Gun > Retreat > Close > Ram
You will never have victory no matter what stats you claim to have without strategy.
